I found a Raze knife that I think has Cocobola Handles that were fairly dark and undistinguished!! I sanded off a goodly layer of wood to see if any surface oxidation was just on a thin surface layer, first with fine emery, then with 600 grit wet & dry!
My experiment proved little if anything!!View attachment 2964679View attachment 2964680

The original finish was better than mine, but the color and features hardly changed!! If anything, the older finish is darker from oxidation, but only slightly!!!
Yup, nothing like fresh pins!!!!thank you for being that explorer Charlie! Those pins certainly freshened up!

Remember those pointy Spear blades they used to make?? Very Distinctive!!!!More Ebony for Sunday!!! The second HJ that Bill made for me, one of twenty five in that wood!! Manufactured over at the "other cutlery" in Titusville, by Bill and his fellows!! 2005-2006!!! Heady days!!View attachment 2964810
OK I got it now since looking at it after doing a Google search, I now understand that to be a curled blade instead of a hoof hook and a pen blade which made no sense, and now understand it is used to scribe wood, yours does not seem to be totally pocket friendly lol,but a few interesting videos on them.cool knifeI found a Raze knife that I think has Cocobola Handles that were fairly dark and undistinguished!! It must go fairly deep. I sanded until the color seemed to stop changing!!I think the darkening of cocobolo is a combination of surface oxidation and absorption of skin oil. Sanding only gets the surface oxidation.
