"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Carl, I lived in Texas from 1979 to 1993 and would not mind at all going back someday. My dad lives in Corpus and my brother lives East of Austin. Good luck in your new venture.

Duncan and Andi prayers still being sent from the Heartland

Have a great day,
Jeff

sorry for the bad cell phone pic.

Yeah, Texas is hot, but I would love not to have to shovel snow for the rest of my life. I'm at a point in life where I can handle heat way better than cold, like most senior citizens, not to mention most of what Karen and I like to do, requires warm weather. Canoeing, fishing, sailing, a day at the beach, riding our Vespa's, did I mention fishing?:D

Carl.

That sounds like a good plan. SO many of the things I want to do I just simple haven't got access or time to do. Right now I should be planning a hike into the woods to find some juicy ramps and morel mushrooms as this is spring and tomorrow is saturday... have to drive all night just to get close to them though. :)

I figure if you have the health to do something you enjoy and you are retired then you should go do it. There's a whole lot of living that never seems to get done. No better time than now to do it.

spent a little time in texas. some places are kind of iffy with rude people and some places are real nice and the people also. much like anywhere else i guess.

couple things i noticed;
east of the mississippi river the good old boys mostly like to wear lace-up boots and baseball caps. west of the mississippi the same type of guys tend to wear slip-on boots and cowboy hats.
also, when i went somewhere to eat and walked up to the counter to pay they would say 'did you get full?' not 'was it good?'. lol

Blimey, Yorkshire really is the Texas of England! :D

I love hearing all these stories and observations about ordinary folk in places I have never visited. Keep 'em coming fellers :)

Ugh. Who wants to buy some kids? Potential uses: You can drop them on your enemies to destroy their day like plague-infected livestock carcasses on a besieged city.

I understand when thoughts and prayers are offered, but what's the smoke do?

~Neil

"Smoke sent" is a common phrase on BF.
It could mean incense rising to Shiva.
It could mean lighting a candle to the Virgin.
It could mean incense of praise to the Lord Jesus Christ mixed with a cry for mercy.

Exactly what it is likely depends on your belief system. There are members of all sorts of religions, as well as any number of agnostics and atheists who post on BladeForums.

The gist is that the sender wishes to reach out in a way which is not specific to any one set of religious beliefs and send support to the one asking for it.

Here is an example of where you grew up, who you associated with and what you find important effects your understanding. I always took it to mean native American ceremony where a pipe was smoked, an passed around, with the rising smoke went prayers to the Great Spirit. I can go with any of them, they all sound good. A nice slow burning campfire can be a altar of sorts also. Just ask any old scout. 300

I believe in God, but always graciously accept good thoughts, prayers and smoke. Regardless of what you believe or don't believe. I appreciate everyone's concern for family and friends in need. Like Frank said, it's all about support.

Jack, indeed - he is really growing fast... he´s almost getting his first teeth... ;) he´s a realy cute little guy. :D

Be careful Andi...this is when "pull my finger" gets dangerous, those new teeth are SHARP

Thanks russde... I gonna be careful - next time, furtunatelly nothing happend to my fingers... ;)

Thanks for explaining the smoke to me. I agree with the sentiment. This world would be a better place if more people had some consideration for the beliefs of others. There seems to be a good deal of consideration for others going on in these forums.
