I confess I don't know anything about Yorkshire day, but I wish all my Yorkshire knife nut cousins a good one. Out of respect, I'll go watch the Four Yorkshire men, and have a drink.

Carl.

Put me down for one of those too please sir! :)

There was a most fortuitous coincidence in West Yorkshire this week, when, on the very same day, both ScruffUK and I received a gifted Charlow! Thom received his from Duane, and I from Charlie. We got the boys together today for a photo opportunity, but as it has been raining all afternoon, we had to stay in the pub!

Thanks for a very pleasant afternoon Thom, always great to see you, and thank you very much for the presents (a Victorinox Alox Bantam and a Taylor's Eye Witness British Army clasp knife), more will be heard of them in due course! :)

What beverages are behind those pretty knives? My guess would be Guinness and Boddingtons, but I'm probably wrong.

we used to *dream* of livin in a corridor. woulda been a palace to us.

We lived in an old water tank in a rubbish pit!

Very good chaps

*shakes head*

We were both supping some 'real ale'. I was supping the dark one, Moorhouse's Black Cat mild, Jack's I can't remember, probably something 'orribly hoppy.

Boddingtons tastes like sweaty socks and I refuse to drink it. Guinness is inevitably served too cold in pretty much every establishment you find it in these days, likewise, it's not worth having.

I've never tasted sweaty socks. :o

I lived in Belfast for six years and there was a bar in the cathedral quarter that used to serve the most perfect pint of the dark stuff. Sigh. Been a long time since I had a decent beer pulled for me, I have to content myself with bottled stuff now.

Why does it happen every time? I order a new one, convinced this will be the last because it has the last possible combination of blade types that I don't have. So a couple of days ago a Tidioute Eureka with smooth calico bone arrived with its excellent Jack form and spear main with coping secondary. Oh it's gorgeous, came very sharp for once and I love that coping blade. So two days in and I'm worrying that lovely smooth bone in my hand thinking "wouldn't that coping 2nd go really well with a master sheepsfoot".

Argh! Why do I do this to myself!

Being honest, I´ve never tried Heineken. I think I don´t want to do that - I just opened a cooled Andechs Vollbier Hell - brewed at Kloster Andechs, Bavaria. When I came home today - I had two Wolferstetter Edel Hell with a friend of mine.

It will be my last today - I need to get up early tomorrow ;) (and drive by car)

Rhetorical question.... but quoted for truth!

Getting a new knife that you enjoy, that is real excitement, but over there in the yonder blue......

Let's face it, the genuine buzz of a new knife needs constant fixing..:D

As for beer on tap, what's all the fuss? Kind of odd fetish to my mind, decent bottled is always reliable! (Provided you pour it yourself!)

Beer? I never acquired a taste for it, I guess because I grew up around Coors light and Natural Light!

Pmew, our support group meets every Tuesday in the church hall. Sales are encouraged ;)...

Thanks Carl, and the rest of you :) Apart from the disappointment of discovering my daughter has never even heard of the Yorkshire anthem On Ilkla Mor Bah t'at, having to instruct a posh southerner on the correct pronounciation of 'scone', and having spent the last four hours editing the photos I took at Sheffield's Kelham Island Industrial Museum (most of which you will get to see eventually), I had a pretty good Yorkshire Day. Met up with my daughter and grandaughter, nice pub lunch, couple of excellent pints in two great Sheffield pubs, a couple of hours in the museum, and my girlfriend surprised me with a Trevor Ablett knife (ie she bought me one, rather than anything less pleasant), which was actually sharp and well-ground!

Daleside Blonde :)
