"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Certainly will buddy, my grandmother still lives on Psalter Lane, I'm sure I'll be back there soon enough.

I grew up on Ecclesall Road just round the corner. My mate lived on Hunter House Road, so we'd meet up in the Charlie Peace alley between Psalter Lane and Ecclesall Road as kids, next to the Banner Cross Hotel. I picked up a great wee book about old Ecclesall in Sheffield the other day, if they've any left when I'm next over, I'll pick you one up

My Senior Moment of the day was leaving a bottle of beer in the freezer! Hope I get to drink it before bed-time! :D

Cheers Jack, don't go out your way on my account though. I put beer in the freezer on purpose, sometimes you need a cold one and there just isn't enough time!

Yeah, me too, but I didn't mean to leave it in there so long it froze solid! :D

It all worked out well in the end though

I think I'm becoming an old grouch. Recently and especially over the last few days I've been reading through the traditionals forum grumbling away to myself "grumble grumble grumble bloody tactical crap grumble grumble pocket clip trash grumble grumble that doesn't belong here get off our porch ye eejit grumble grumble". I caught myself doing it again this morning. Is the traditionals forum evolving and I can't keep up or am I becoming less tolerant? My fiancé nicknames me when we have a squabble "wind your neck in Grandad Wilson" she says to me.

You think it makes you grumble? You should hear the grumbling at my house!
On a serious note; sometimes it takes new posters awhile to understand what will fly here. We try and give them a chance to learn rather than coming down to hard. If the threads are too far off the mark they get moved.

Few days ago I got a package from our well respected member, Gevonovich who promised to send me some of his handmade earrings in return to coins I sent him.
Well, as I opened the package with my loyal stockman I saw three pairs of most beautiful and unique earrings, all hand made by Gev. As I understand he made the glass bids himself, and the copper earrings used to be penny coins till Gev had transformed them .
It didn't take long till my wife and my youngest daughter put on the the pair the picked. My eldest daughter who returned from summer camp the day after was very happy with the pair she got.
So we have now nice calm weekend with three smiling ladies.

I am very sorry to post only one photo but they just snatched them out of my hand and put them on :D but still you can get the look of how lovely they are.
Thank you my friend, your gift really touched us all.

Look great! Nothing like keeping the ladies happy. My wife is a jewelry freak, earrings especially, and she also knows and loves traditional knives and appreciates beauty in that realm of artistry too!

Indeed. Very true and I know I have (and actually not too long ago) done same and been chastised. Sage words. I shall repack my pipe and light it again.

:)

Its so nice to hear your ladies are enjoying the earrings, Mike! Life does not get much better than three smiling ladies.

Thanks again for the beautiful coins and most importantly your kindness and friendship.

To have the talent to make beautiful things in an often violent&ugly world is a great talent indeed.

Fine gesture Gev, making others happy for the sake of it is priceless.

Great bone on that Stockman Mike! Genuine Worn Through Care.

Regards to all, Will

Will, I always appreciate your thoughtfulness!! Have a great day.

Thank you, Sir

Thank you Gev, really appreciate that.

You show some excellent knives and some very fine acts too.

Regards, Will

As much fun as this is to read, I'm going to move this to the lounge.

You and Frank do a great job Gary

As much fun as this is to read, I'm going to move this to the lounge.

It wasn't always in The Lounge?! :D

More great work Gevonovich

There is a thread in the Traditional Forum titled "Traditional and Modern Pairings". In that thread, on page 10, Gary (Peregrin) says about that thread:

This thread comes back up from the bottom regularly. It's one of my favorites too. Here's the official guideline;

Thread "necromancy" is frowned upon. Please do not resurrect dormant threads simply to say "nice knife" or the like.
If you have something substantive to add to the discussion then by all means do so, otherwise move on and let sleeping dogs lie.

I always figure if you're telling us what your "pairing" is then that's substantive. Feel free to add some pics

Thanks,

That thread is a good thread but that's where the limit should be drawn. Heck, even "knarfeng" (Frank) seems to like the "Traditional and Modern Parings" thread as he posts in it too. However, as Gary and Paul say; a little goes a long way.

It's an interesting thread as it gives insight to how many members carry a traditional knife but a modern knife too.

My title isn't, "Grumpy old man moderator" for nothing.
Might have to change my title to "Mikey".
