I love how you guys stay on topic!! :D I was interested in this thread and am glad it is not moved. Thanks for saving it guys!

Well... let me say - as a non-english-mother-tongue some of the english words are not learnt at school by me (like Moose, though I know what it is). But thanks to the forum I got much better in english in general. But also in german we have several plural forms that very irregular.

Thoug we had an english teacher that was up to us that we wrote "knives" and not "knifes" - maybe he was a knife guy, too?! :D

(Just to add: English grammar can be really pretty tough... at least for me)

Not to worry, Andi, it can be pretty tough for us as well.

Isn't "of" an abbreviated form of "have"? Or is the contraction "coulda"?

From the south where sentences like "Where have you been?" are one word -"Whereyabeen?" - Ed J

Is this a general "complain about grammar while likely making a mistake in your own post" thread, or is it just a knife/knives thread?

If the latter, then here is the knive I am carrying today:

PS: Is Frank on vacation this week or something? Never thought this one would last this long.

Thanks for the kind words, Dan and Ed :) I also don´t know how my english is spoken. I have not that much of possibility talking in english language.

But I remember my english teacher to use the "v" in "knives" with a lot of preasure and at the tip of the lips... ;) :D
I remember reading "Winnie The Pooh" in 7th grade at school and we actually had trouble to follow the story.

I'm minded of the times when you were a kid, and the teacher stepped out of the class for 5 minutes! :D

You certainly weren't alone there Andi!

When I went off to university, my mother gave me a copy of Winnie the Pooh in Latin: Winnie ille Pooh. :)

Incidentally, many of the irregular English plurals come from a change similar to German umlaut.

The contraction in that case would be "could've."

Such a complicated world.

I would gladly give credit to the person I stole this from if I remembered who it was:

"Bad English is unfortunate but bad Scotch is intolerable!"
