"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

(Just to add: English grammar can be really pretty tough... at least for me)

Hey, your grammar is pretty good Andi :thumbup: I'm not sure it's about grammar, maybe just about laziness.

Yeah, this thread probably should be in Whine & Cheese! :D

I would of said its knifes with steal blades.

English is not my native language, but I cringe every time I see these mistakes. Especially the would/should/could of, it's so annoying that it makes me stop reading and skip that post :D
(And please correct me when I make mistakes without knowing it.)

Since you asked? The correct word above is "have" instead of your bolded "of," as in "could have, should have, would have."

:)

I suspect that may have been a 'deliberate mistake' there P ;)

well, nobody is perfect. i rarely if ever capitalize anything and i do not use an apostrophe in contractions. much of my posting is in non-sentences with abysmal grammar and punctuation. i frequently write in what i imagine to be a conversational tone which includes wildly colloquial english from the southeastern united states. in this sort of informal setting i am willing to let a lot of things slide if yall will. lol

having said this, i want to note that as spell check creeps into more and more places the number of rules someone has to keep in their head diminishes. it should be easier to remember things like irregular plural forms of nouns like 'knife' and the difference between 'there' and 'their'. but misuse of such words seems to be getting worse. i wonder if writing is actually getting worse or if it only seems that way because the internet has made it easier to see more writing from more people.

edit to add;
the above text is absolutely *not* aimed at non-native english speakers. i am frequently surprised at how many people who post here do not speak english as their first language and yet you would not know it by reading their posts.

anyway, meh. heres some knife content;

Shouldn't this whole Thread be in "Whine and Cheese"?

Much too silly to be in "Whine and Cheese", this thread is about correctly using the traditional term "knives" for groups of traditional knives.

Let's get serious and add examples for Dick and Jane!

Knife!
