"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Yesterday, I had to run to the grocery store for a few odds 'n ends whilst my pork shoulder bone and split peas were happily simmering along, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I spied this on the shelf

Immediately I thought about Jack, and the posts somewhere about the world famous "mushy peas" :) Actually, I couldn't help but chuckle a bit, and smile bemusedly, thinking about this, and then got to thinking about the friendships I've formed in this place. Pretty cool stuff really...
Now, about these mushy peas, any suggestions from across the pond on what to serve them with, excepting fish and chips...?
:D :) ;)

Right on Duane, I spy a can of spotted dick at the store we go to.

Stay safe, Jack, sounds like a doosy of a storm.

We are getting a pretty good dumping of heavy wet snow today,

Wow Kris! Looks like the pups have been having a blast running about in the white stuff

Do you know they're made in Sheffield Duane?! Now, I know Duncan tried some of these when he was over, and he quite liked them. Personally, I think they're disgusting and would throw them straight in the trash can! :D

Thanks a lot Kris. We've not had it so bad in Yorkshire. Some strong winds, and very heavy rain, but OK :)

Thanks Duane, the dogs LOVE winter.

Just caught this pic of my Downy woodpecker friend,

I was out last weekend and saw a feller with a malmute, the first I ever saw I think, and I was amazed by it's size, a truly lovely dog. I immediately thought of you and your pups, and in fact I told the guy I had a pal who had a couple. And do you know what, within five minutes of that encounter I spotted a woodpecker just like the one you've pictured heree, they're not too common here either. Isn't that a coincidence? :)

Jack

A very huge LOL! Jack! :D I did happen to be cooking my favorite pea soup when I spotted these, so maybe they might tickle my fancy:p :) very cool coincidence BTW!

Kris, that's a nice pic of the little downy:thumbup: I've got a few here, and some red bellied that are constant visitors:thumbup: But I have been hearing the big hammer for a while now, and the other day he finally showed himself, a full grown Pileated was drilling into my neighbors maple tree:eek: Youwser, they are a big bird and the chunks of bark just go a flying when they start to drilling for them bugs! I tried to sneak out for a pic, but he flew off in a flash when I was spotted...I may need to set up a film camera in a window if he returns, no long lenses for my digital camera :(

That's very cool a Pileated is in your neighborhood. There is a primitive area that we frequent 30 min from here that you can hear the Pileated through the valley, but rarely catch a glimpse. Lovely bird. We have a beautiful(and rather large) Northern Flicker around our neighborhood that is very skitish, love it when I see him though. Look forward to a pic, if you can catch one.

Kris

We've had a pileated in our backyard several times, finally getting this decent shot.

We also have a nice pair of red-bellied woodpeckers that come in, this last winter.

Just thought I would introduce the reason I have been absent from the forums for a while,

Gentlemen meet the newest member of my family (now almost 5 months)

Sorry to bombard with photos but I'm a bit of a proud papa.

Congratulations to you and your family BC. What a sweetie! :)

Wanted to report back briefly, since so many of you shared your kind thoughts, and show a few images of Skyler having some fun catching and playing with a Kong toy earlier today.

She is quite the athlete and never ceases to amaze with her speed and agility.

Nice pics Elliott, thanks for the update, got a big smile on my face right now :)

What Jack says - great to see these pics. Young dogs are always fun to watch while they are playing.

She actually seems to be agile and very athletic. I´m sure you´ll have a great time with her, Elliott. :)

Thanks Jack & Andi!

Jack, I most definitely cannot keep up. She far exceeds my meager cardio ability these days (though I can still out-muscle her). LOL!

She has a very strong prey drive and our evening walks are always an adventure when the rabbits and deer (and other critters) cross our paths.

Last night she stopped to try and locate an owl that was hooting in a tree just off our path.

While there are still a few rough edges I hope to smooth over time, I'm pretty well pleased overall.

I was just joking there :) Sounds like things are going pretty good though Elliott, great to hear :)
