"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Doubt you not young sir, truth is often stranger than fiction (especially in Yorkshire!) ;)

Oddly enough, I am familiar with this dance, having been in a grade school performance of it over 50 years ago. There were about a dozen of us. We used wooden swords. At the end of the dance you interlace them together to form a multi-pointed star. Because of the interlacing, the star is stable and one member of the team is able to hold the entire thing up in the air. Fun to do. Fun to see. And quite memorable as you can guess from my being able to remember it from many years ago.

well right now, feeling the old adage
No good deed goes unpunished

2 little dogs and a new BIG puppy, makes for a boisterous and LOUD mix

So the puppy is staying with you? Careful, it might grow up to be a rottweiler.

no not a permanently.

He is going to be a BIG dog, and will need a family to spend lots and lots of time with him, a big yard to run and a more active lifestyle than we can provide. Besides, I just brought home another lost pup last june, someone apparently dumped her in the parking lot in front of my work, who DID stay with us and that makes 2 dogs and 3 cats which is more than enough for our little apartment as it is.

But it is sunday and nobody is open today. The vets all open tomorrow so i am going to take him to a few of the locals and see if he has a chip or if any of the vets recognize him. We think he is someones baby, well groomed, well mannered, knows the word no, sits when we give him a treat. So it would make sense that whoever he belongs to will have taken him to the vet for his shots and check ups.

wish me luck!

Very cool stuff Jack!

Thanks Duane :)

That's interesting Frank  It certainly made for an interesting spectacle in a small bar. Apparently there's a whole festival of this sort of dancing in Leeds next month.

Careful, it might grow up to be a rottweiler.

Indeed! Good luck Mr Smith :)

Might be late to the party with this, but has anyone seen the new limited edition repro by Victorinox?

Looks nice. Anybody got one, or got any info on it, the website is pretty sparse, no dimensions or anything.

Careful, it might grow up to be a rottweiler.

so i went to 5 local vets to see if anyone recognized him...no luck
although 4 of the 5 vets wrote down my name and number in case

anyways, we learned
1) he isnt chipped
2) he is somewhere between 2-3 months
3) he is obviously someone's pet, he too healthy, well groomed not to be
4) apparent guess is that he is a Coon Hound
*shrugs*

here is to hoping

Good luck. We have 5 dogs. We got two on purpose and the other 3 more or less the way this one came to you. They are all good dogs. I hope the owner appears -- but I am quite sure that one of mine was a loved pet that got left behind a move.

As far as I know it's "The Original Replica of the first Swiss Army Knife of 1891". It has palisander (rosewood) scales and measures 91mm or 3.58".
Comes with a very nice wooden box. I haven't handled one but they must be really very well made.
The best price tag I could find in Germany is 340€ or $460

I wanted to post this phote I took last weekend on a short local bushwalk with my son. It just speaks of Summer and I hope Winter relaxes its grip in the Northern Hemisphere soon.
The little bird in the pic is a Rainbow Lorikeet , a small type of parrot. Don't let that "less than macho" name fool you. These are a pugnacious, noisy, confrontational bird that hangs out in gangs ready to start a biffo with much larger birds if it that takes their fancy.Particularly when food is involved.

340€!!! Think I might give it a miss. Thanks for the info Peter.

Cheers for the pic Meako, I like the fact that we have regulars from both hemispheres here, it makes for some interesting pic in the EDC thread, and it's nice to know that some of my friends are not surrounded by damp and gloom :)

Nice-looking knife Paul, but I was also shocked by the price when I saw them, you could get a custom for that!

if you can't find his owners, I could meet you in Rogers Ar and take him off your hands. :)
OTOH, the newspaper generally posts up free "found" ads.

Thanks for the pic Andi, I think Max is a great name too :)

Great pic Pappa Andi - thanks for sharing!
Enjoy the special aura a newborn has - and get some sleep whenever possible :D
