Congratulations Andi! The biggest challenge any man can face is being a father (says the man with no kids).
Sarah, you must be very proud. When you next see your son, shake his hand for me, he is a brave and courageous man.
So I got married. In Pitlochry, at the foot of the highlands in a small episcopal church Claire kept me standing for an extra half an hour before the piper began 'the star of the County Down' to signal her arrival. She looked stunning in ivory and scarlet and we said our vows in front of seventy of our closest friends and relations before signing the register. I almost totally screwed up by signing my signature followed by my shoulder number as I have done so many thousands of times before, but she saved my bacon (no pun intended) before I sealed my fate, and Claire of course, signed her family name for the last time.
Claire being the architect of the entire occasion had arranged a horse drawn carriage to take us from the church up the hill in the sleet to the Atholl Palace Hotel where the fun began. A delicious meal and a Céilidh to follow along with many a beer and of course uisge beatha. It was a successful occasion.
I am afraid, I am still on my honeymoon and have no means to post pictures of the day or the knives I carried, I actually used three. First, my 2013 BF was in my sporan and was very helpful when my best man discovered that his kilt and prince charlie had all the dry cleaning tags through every part of it. Second, my ebony handled sgian dubh, which was used to trim a romeo y julietta given me by my best man (he did an admirable job). Third, a beautiful ivory handled, etched silver cake knife. Made in Sheffield, and sent me in the week before we left the Hebrides by our very own Jack Black. It is a beautiful piece and Claire and I were very touched when we received it. We cut our wedding cake with it, and it was admired by our guests and the hotel staff. Thank you Jack.
I shall post pictures as soon as I am able, but it is not on the top of my priority list for the next two weeks
