"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Good morning guys! :)

I wasn´t online yesterday - came home late yesterday from the hospital. Frank: As you wish - here are some technical details ;)

Weight: 4040 gram ~ 8 pounds
Size: 53 cm
Head size: 38 cm

He´s a big boy, until now but the docs say he´s healthy and everything is alright. My wife is also on the way up from the surgery. And will be on the trail in a couple of days - both are still in hospital.

I gonna go there in an couple of minutes. :)

Actually, that´s a great feeling. I still can´t explain it with words - eventually later.

Ganz herzlichen Glückwunsch Andi und alles Gute für Max!!
Aber Obacht mit der Säge ;)

Congratulations to you both Paul. Thank you for sharing your special day with us on here.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who habitually signs his number (the theme from Secret Agent Man just popped into my head).
They say opposites attract -I know its true because my wife is an intelligent, sober, sensible, thrifty, hard working, beautiful woman who.... heeeyyy! wait a second!
Cheers.

and where would I find some of that elixir on this side of the pond?
I do like the Islay single malts.

Honestly in the states, I've no idea. Signatory Vintage are an independent bottling company that offer unique cask strength malts from established distilleries. They tend to buy individual casks in between malting production years and bottle them as serial numbered one offs. Like an SFO :)

Sometime i dislike people.
The older man that lives behind me is, unpleasant anyways. He is older, in his 70s i believe and while he has never been anything less than respectful to me, i've seen how he talks to his wife and even my wife tells me about a verbal exchange they had one day while I wasnt home. Anyways, he is a real class act.

So yesterday i am working, and my wife calls me and says she needs me to run home, she's got an emergency (back in 2006 my wife nearly died from the west nile virus, it actually got into her spinal cord and paralyzed her from the waist down, and while she has had some recovery she still uses a walker or crutches to get around) my puppy is stuck and her lead is all wrapped around something and due to all the rain the ground was so wet my wife couldnt get to her.

So i come home, unwrap the puppy and i hear some yelping, i look and the old man that lives behind me is chasing a dog with a broom. The dog is obviously terrified but he isnt leaving. So i walk over and go see what is going on. When i get to the pup, he is curled up in a corner, OBVIOUSLY terrified and looking at me with such a mix of terror and hope that it broke my heart. So i go up slowly an try and talk to him low and soothing like and he lets me pick him up. What i thought was a small dog, is actually just a pup, he has his teeth but they are still puppies needle teeth.

I am thinking he is a large breed and he is pretty young (between 2 and 3 months old). So yeah, i got him in the house and explain to the wife what happened and i went back to work. Holy moly is this an upset to our normal routine, but we walked around the block after i got back from work, hoping that we'd see his people out looking for him, but no luck. Anyways, hopefully we can find his people soon. He is OBVIOUSLY someones baby. He is well groomed, he knows to run to the door when he needs to go potty, he is very gentle and affectionate and when we go to give him a treat, he automatically sits. So we are pretty sure somewhere, someone is looking for him, we just hope we can find them.

anyways, here is a picture of the pup

you cant really tell, but if you see his feet, man this is going to be a big dog

Thanks Peter! A great image of a great story by Mr. Busch. :)
Thanks for the kind words. (Ich habe die Säge bereits im Schuppen versteckt und vorsichtshalber die Brücke betoniert)

I'm 4 days into a Quest-binge, and a group of Sheffield ladies, dressed in the orange and black of the city's finest delicacy, Henderson's Relish, just came into a bar I was in and danced around around waving big knives! I have photos to prove it, and will try to write up my recent adventures tomorrow! ;)

Jack

Ah, I see what you did there old bean ;)

Very good.

So, are they the official Henderson's sword dancers?

Doubt you not young sir, truth is often stranger than fiction (especially in Yorkshire!) ;)

I'm confused. The charity shops consider pearl pen knives to be dangerous weapons, but the local ladies swing swords around in the bars?

That couldn't happen in Texas, not because of the weaponry, but because judging by the above photo, that is obviously a Satanic coven.:D

A few pics of the walk today, lots of snow the last few days. I just missed taking a pic of a stunning female Belted Kingfisher. Yesterday there were 3 times as many geese, but no camera.

Great pics Kris

So, are they the official Henderson's sword dancers?

Unfortunately not, Henderson's, a 100+ year old company which until recently could not even manage to get their bottle labels printed so the ink didn't just wipe off, and which is still largely unavailable outside Sheffield, were concerned for their trademark. So the ladies had to change their name, which previously made reference to Henderson's, to Sheffield Steel Rapper (and you can watch them on the Tube ;) ).

I've seen quite a bit of witchcraft over the past few days! :D

Very cool stuff Jack!
You too Kris!
Very dodgy internet access, but still loving you guys posts...
Ryan, I thank you for showing a kindness to that poor pup, but alas, they do make the most loving companions when they finally get accepted into a forever home:thumbup:
Good on you brother for showing that creature some love:)

well right now, feeling the old adage
No good deed goes unpunished

2 little dogs and a new BIG puppy, makes for a boisterous and LOUD mix
