Did anyone else see the Aurora last night?

It was as spectacular as I have ever seen it. Breath taking, mesmerising and mystical. :)

Never seen it. Always wanted to. It's a bucket list item.

Me, too. Some years ago I was visiting friends in Wisconsin, and stayed up late out in the cold, hoping to see it. Finally went to bed, and the next morning friend's roommate says "Did you see the lights last night? They were amazing!" Apparently, he'd come in around three in the morning and the lights were spectacular, but he didn't realize that I would have wanted him to wake me up to see them :grumpy:

I rarely miss a sunrise. From the porch this morning.

Man, i am infuriated right now. And i dont know what to do about it.

Came home today, and i noticed the neighbors next door brought in a full grown pitbull. Female, looks like she had a litter relatively recently even based on physiology. The guy has her on an 8 foot chain and came back a few minutes later with a 2Tx2Wx3T doghouse. To understand there is a little strip besides our driveway and the neighbors house, maybe 3 or 4 feet wide and has a partial fence on it.

That 4x8 (maybe 10 foot) area is all she has. Not to mention she is literally RIGHT by our driveway. I cannot walk outside my house without her going nuts barking. If i take my dogs out she goes nuts, and then of course my dogs start barking back. I have an older rat terrier that has lived his entire 9 1/2 years here and he has had the run of the backyards ...if he gets in range she is going to eat him.

I am pretty sure she is full blood pit, and in this county you have to have a permit and insurance, but i have no way of knowing. If i complain too much he could cause trouble because i probably shouldnt have 3 dogs in my little duplex, but i honestly dont believe my dogs are bothering anyone *shrugs*

My life just got real uncomfortable real quick.
and i told my wife, if that dog gets a hold of any of my dogs or goes after her or me, i will shoot it ... in the city...
gah this sucks

whats really fun, is every morning between 5am and 6am my dogs want to go out ...then we feed them and go back to bed for a few more hours. its going to make ALL the other neighbors happy when i take the dogs out and she goes nuts and then my dogs will go nuts in response and tons of barking ...at 5am fun fun

Bad news Mr Smith, I feel for you.

Had guests staying for a few days, and this is my first chance to get online and catch up.

That is a tough situation. After a few days of 5AM barking, I'm thinking the neighbors two doors down will be on your side.

Do you not get along with your neighbours, at least enough to have a civilized conversation about their new pet? The longer you allow your feelings to fester, the greater the chance that one day you will 'snap' and do something rash. Never a good thing, imo.

I'd bet that the pooch is probably pretty uncomfortable right now being in a new location. Plenty of strange smells, noises, people and routines going on. It may settle down once it grows accustomed to new surroundings. Maybe your neighbour would agree to be there when you and your own dogs are around; everyone gets to know each other, so to speak. Perhaps after a while, you'll be greeted by a tailwag instead of incessant barking at 5-6am.

But if your neighbours don't care to help with the transition, at least they will know you are uncomfortable and will have a chance to take precautions on their end. I'm sure they don't want trouble with the local animal control people and/or police who might respond to a complaint. The point is that, as with any issue, it's going to take effort on both sides to find a happy medium. The alternative is a neighbour dispute hell that will not end until one of you finally pulls up stakes and moves elsewhere.

Hope it all works out for ya! :)

yeah i feeling really bad for that animal, it was hot yesterday and cold last night and today and she has no room to move. I cant really tell if she barking because she wants to come after the dogs or if she wants to PLAY with them, she seems very interested in our interactions and that these dogs get to go in and out of the house. She very well may be very lonely.
i am hoping she gets accustomed to us, i am not actually afraid of her, i have already stared her down twice, she isn't going to come after me unless i do something very stupid, i have walked up to the fence and if i give her a few minutes she seems to calm down and accept my presence. what i am worried about is that she goes after one of my dogs, or my wife who is on crutches

i am a lot calmer today, yesterday i was upset, it was a massive change in my life that was very unexpected. But yeah we are on good relations with the family next door (mom and two children) but this is the mother's boyfriend who has recently moved back in...and he and i don't really know each other..at all..
so i am going to try and have a conversation with the mother about the situation when the boyfriend is not home one of these days and figure out what is what

i may have over-reacted but i believe i have a rather developed protective sense and i immediately felt like my family was threatened hence my response yesterday.
i haven't really changed my mind, but as my wife puts it, i may be "borrowing trouble *shrugs*

time will tell

Best of luck with the new neighour(s) Mr Smith.

I hope you can work things out so that all your concerns and potential welfare issues are accommodated.

Pot of my trophy winning chili is now simmering on the stove. My son requested it, and since he did all the snow shoveling today he can have whatever he wants for supper.

wow that was enlightening, finally saw the entire family next door, mom, son and boyfriend

so i wave, the mom waves back and i walk over. the dog starts barking. So i ask, is she liable to go after anybody if she gets loose?
his aka, the boyfriends, exact words were... "i dont want you to mess with her"

to which I said, i wasnt going to mess with her, but everytime i go outside, go get the mail, bring the garbage around she goes barking like crazy. Is she liable to go after anyone if she gets loose?
so he says, if you dont mess with her, she wont mess with you, she is going to bark, but that is her job. And with that, they all go in their house

*shrugs* i dont know what to make of that
