My earliest recollection of the term "nerd" is from Fonzie out of Happy Days.

"Nerdish"...? :D

My earliest recollection of the term "nerd" is from Fonzie out of Happy Days.

Alright, now you have to educate me.

I thought the term nerdish would exist or is nerdy .... or is there an adjective for it at all?

Who is Fonzie and what is Happy Days? (just googled it and found a man - but I have no way to get it...)

Oh ... I won´t change our Clan´s name - we almost have some very honored members :p

Nerd-ish would mean "somewhat like a nerd." Sarah's comment is that no, you are a full-blown nerd, not nerdish (a partial nerd).

"Nerdy" would be the adjective form.

Thanks for clearing that up... LOL ... ROFL!!! I´d say that Sarah is completelly right!

Hey ... A full nerd! There's no way I've graduated to full nerd status, I'm only just beyond my geek probation!

I am a natural born nerd. No graduation required. No cure either, you just have to learn to live in the rest of the world.

FYI Andi-This is The Fonz -he would not qualify for knife nerdish new made dads club.He was too cool.
Happy Days was set in the 1950's so the term may well originate from that time.
This is Potsy he was a nerd

"booger" in the Nerds series of movies,The role of the nerd in society has been redefined as being cool.
Todays Geek is the descendant of the Nerd.
Hope that clears it up a bit.:)

A few years ago my son tried to introduce a friend of his to the game of Rugby in the Under 13s team.
This kid was a classic wimpy little nerd with fearless fly spectacles. He had a go at training with other Under 13 dudes with nicknames such as Bruiser, WarFor and Snap.
They christened him "Nerdtron" -he didn't last but he had a go and I respect that.

Stud tram lines across your spine, split eyebrow, cauliflower ear, black eye coming up, broken fingers... Ahhhh those were the days, I miss playing rugby :)

I only played schools rugby, but it was back in the day when you could get away with fitting inch-long back studs all the way down your boots! I remember going to play against the schools from local pit-villages, and half their 'under-15's' side had tattoos on their forearms, and coal-dust underneath their finger-nails! :D Yes, I miss it too! :D

Any sign of that young 'un yet? :)

Not yet, but poor Claire is fit to burst!

I bet! Those last couple of weeks are always hard ones. Thinking of you all anyway my friend

PS I hope you've warned the midwife that she may be treated to some choice East Belfast invective! :D ;)

Even the Fonz could be a nerd, or at least pretend to be. :)

Andi,
I can't believe that you never saw "happy days"...how on Earth could you grow up? :D :p
I know rugby has its charm, but I always preferred American football. I guess it's more my kind of sport (I'm talking about tactics and play development, not physical contact). Yet entering the Twickenham Stadium was great (although I went there for a gig, as people say in th UK) :)
Late prayers for leghog: it's going to be a long process of recovery, but in these situations, my job has taught me that time doesn't really matter.

People who don't understand rugby union often think it's about bashing each other, that's one part of it but mostly it's about tactical thinking under pressure.

Union has the most complex set of rules of any sport I've ever experienced - and what's more, those rules are often interpreted differently by individual referees.

The six nations is coming up in February, watch each game and look at the different approaches each team brings. It's a fascinating sport.

Paul,
I didn't mean to say that rugby is not a tactical sport, nor that it is just about physical contact. And I do get the charm of it (and by the way, I watch the Six Nations pretty much regularly, and know the rules better than you would expect) ;) When I was a teenager (and even before that), my dad, who is an avid tv sportsman :p introduced me to any kind of sport, and I watched and learned the rules of some sports that are virtually unknown here in Italy (baseball, snooker, hockey and so on). I'm not bashing rugby, nor any other sport. It's just that I like some more than others; probably, they fit my "sport mindset" more. :)

I'm sorry Fausto, I re-read my own post there, and it occurs to me that it sounded a bit rude. I didn't mean to imply that you misunderstood rugby. Sorry old chap :)
