"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I just saw a report about a fire brigade up in the Hunter region of NSW.The were doing a xams lolly run for the local kids and saw smoke coming from a house. It should be on the net by now.santa saves the day at house fire.he is probably lucky his nylon suit didnt go up.but full marks for getting the oxy viva on the guy they dragged out. I will find the link tomorrow.

Life throws some wonderful curve balls sometimes :)

Yes and it certainly threw that guy a bone.
Imagine your house catching fire and the fire brigade are in the street already. He should buy himself a lottery ticket.
Ironically however(and don't quote me on this) It is summertime now and there would be no heater or fire going in that house.
That leaves the number one culprit in my book to be dodgy electrical equipment say for instance oooh let me think errrr. Christmas tree lights?
I have no evidence for that theory -with some of the craziness here in the past week who knows what the dude was up to?

Merry Christmas Leghog, and to all you fine folk here on the porch :)

Jack

well, I had a Sauerbraten for lunch with potatoe-dumblings and Blaukraut. Next to several beer.
Tomorrow for lunch there will be a duck with roll-dunblings, fried potatoes and several beers as well.

As every year; these days are diet killers... but it just tastes too fine :D :p

Everything other than the beers sound wonderful (non-drinker ) but I know the Germans love their beer. My mom used to make red cabbage and it is wonderful. Enjoy the holidays! Steven

Yeah, we Germans love our beer, but it contains so many calories... you can google the term "Bierbauch" or "Bierwampe" to see what I mean ;)

German food in general is quite tasty and with many meat and other ingrediences like Sauerkraut, potatoes etc.

I remember when I was in Munich for work I used a great recipe there for food. It was a real poor-man´s-meal. I boiled potatoes and separately some Sauerkraut. When it was done some salt and butter added - you have such a great and tasty meal :) For a couple of bucks... :D

mmmMMMMmmmmmm Love me some kartoffel klösse. My wife made schweinebraten and klösse the day before I left. Hog heaven.

Hog Heaven, indeed! Schweinebraten is such a great feast. I love everything about it, the smell, the taste the period of time it needs to be done. Yummy Yummy!!

I hope you are save where you are, Leghog. I hope you´ll be back with your family soon.

A sick cat and insomnia have me google searching these wonderful sounding foods! I think this weekend I will try my hand at some Schweinebraten with Blaukraut and shredded potato pancakes! Gluten free, of course :) Andi, I hope you your wife and little max had a wonderful Christmas. Leghog, wishing you a safe deployment and a speedy return home.

Thanks for the kind words, Duane. Much appreciated my friend. :)
Yeah, we had wonderful christmas this year. I just returned from duck-eating with my wife´s grandma and parents. What a tasty event. :D
I hope you had a great christmas as well?

With some Schweinebraten and Blaukraut as well as potatoes you can´t go wrong. Though in Bavaria we use to enjoy our Schweinebraten with Sauerkraut and not Blaukraut. ;)

I feel like a nap now :D

My mother in-law is German. She married my father in-law, a GI, in the mid-1950s and later came to the USA with him. It's from her my wife learned to cook.

Indeed it looks like a wonderful meal, Duane. Especially with carrots that might fit taste-wise. I gonna give that a try when we have such meal again ;)

Alright, leghog. Now I see it. German meals are so great in their taste, as well as the austrian. In Austria they use to eat a great variety of dumblings (Knödel) - filled with many things like bacon, hacked meat, apricots etc etc.... ;) You should also ask your wife for this kind of meals (you won´t regret it).

You're making me hungry...
There's a shorter word for those "shredded potato pancakes", it's called Rösti and it's practically our national dish :).

I hope you and your cat are doing better, one of mine was limping as well for some reason but is ok again.

Thanks guys! Sturzi, That is what the recipe I found online was called ;)
Andi, The carrots were braised alongside the pork for the last hour, Mmmmmm :)

We will be having the Rösti often in the future, My wife and I play a game. After the meal I ask her what it got for points, 1-10 is the scale..this one received a 10.5 :D
