Hey folks! I hope you all had a very good Christmas! As I posted before, I was recently fairly laid up by the flu, which morphed into a sinus infection.
Things got worse. My sinus infection turned into an upper respiratory infection. I didn't feel too bad, but I could only manage an hour or two of sleep each night since I was coughing so much when I'd lie down. Last Monday, after a particularly sleepless night, I left work early to head to the doctor's office to try to get something for the cough. I arrived at the office and sat down in the lobby, and immediately felt like I was going to freeze to death. I literally could NOT stop shivering. I'm a pretty big guy, I don't get cold easily. This isn't good...
I finally got called back into the exam room, where my 2nd wait began. I made it about 10 minutes and then had to run to the bathroom where I tossed up my lunch. I immediately felt better, but the doctor said that I had an upper respiratory infection and ANOTHER touch of the flu bug. Great. He prescribed me an antibiotic and some strong cough medicine, and said that the flu symptoms should pass by morning. I thought all was well. Wrong.
He cleared me to leave and I followed him out of the exam room. I felt a little woozy, but thought I was ok. I made it about 25 feet following the doctor, and the next thing I know, I woke up on the ground. Apparently I passed out and took a little dive. They called my wife and dad, and I got to take my first ever ambulance ride! I got checked out at the hospital and they determined that I was somewhat dehydrated and just plain old exhausted. Two bags of IV fluids and many hours later, I was cleared to leave.
I felt better and better, and wound up having a very merry Christmas with Katie and Julia. They even got me a new knife!
and Christmas day marked Julia turning 10 months old!
So that was all good. Yesterday, Sunday, was by 32nd birthday. We had a wonderful, relaxing day just lounging around and visiting with family. All was great, until around 9pm. We were just putting Julia to bed for the night and my phone rang. My mom was calling. Hmm... That's unusual. I answered, knowing that my dad was in southern Ohio at work until 6 the next morning. Oh, what's that? Your kitchen floor is flooded? Ok, just stay out of there, I'll be over.
Oh Lord. No, it wasn't flooded, per se. It seems as though something went horribly wrong with their septic system and the downstairs toilet pretty much grenaded. Yep. I spent the last three hours of my birthday (and two hours after) cleaning up sewage. It's a good thing these people gave birth to me...
In any case, I got the mess cleaned up, got the basement drains temporarily opened, and got them back in business until a professional drain cleaner can work on things.
So that's where I've been and what's been keeping me busy! Yikes! I'm glad New Year's is this week. I'm sorry if my story was a tad gross, but I just had to share it with someone!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and have a happy new years! Take care, and may your new year be filled with health, happiness, and traditional knives galore!
