"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

:) Jeff, I hardly ever drop by the lounge, though I need to more often, but I just noticed the birthday post. Thank you all for that. :)
It really is hard process how fast it goes. Right now her face is covered with ice-cream, even though I just brushed her teeth and gave her bath. Oh well, it's Friday.

Brett, ice cream is GOOOOD!

Brett - Happy Birthday wishes to your lovely daughter. Better late than never as the saying goes.
I really should stop by the lounge more often. All I can say is to enjoy the momentts like this and all the
other special memories. One morning you will wake up and that beautiful young lady will be 31 years old
and living in another state some 400 hundred miles away:)

We had most of the village in our house yesterday to watch the rugby.

Ireland beat Italy but France beat Scotland.

I'm happy in this picture because it was before the match. Claire is still smiling today, but I'm not :(

Great pic Paul, love that shirt wee Rory is wearing :)

+ 5K!

What Half/Stop writes is SO true! In my case, I'd modify it to say that you'll wake up and she'll be 26 years old and living in a different COUNTRY that you can't even DRIVE to!! :(:(:o (But if you carefully manage your time and money, you might get to go visit her, have a fabulous time, and get some interesting knives as souvenirs! :p)

+ 5K again!

Has Rory indicated what his current favorite among your GEC #25s, Paul? ;);)

@5K Qs

He's too wee just now. He hasn't started paying attention to objects at all. He likes looking at his mother, our two dogs and bright lights. :)

Belated birthday wishes to your daughter, Brett. :)

Max turned One Year on 29th January. We had a nice little party. He wasn´t too much up to all this - very relaxing for him ;)
Max is almost trying to walk, but just can stand up (and fall on his butt as well).

Thanks for showing the pic, Paul. What a beautiful pic, my friend. Rory is a great looking lad.

It is just plain amazing to see them discover the world and learn something new every single day, isn´t it?

Thank you everyone for the kind words and birthday wishes! :) The party went great and she now expects ice-cream any time we open the freezer.

I remembered a mostly traditional knife show in Dalton Ga that I attended last year about this time of the year. Did some checking and the 2015 version is scheduled for March 13 and March 14 (Fri & Sat). I had a good time last year and there were bunches of old traditional slip joints there. I referred to it as slip joint heaven last year. Maybe a few of you in the region might be interested. (Spirit of Steel Knife Show). Don't think this one is heavily advertised and I would not even have known about it last year except Ethan Becker mentioned he was attending (not exhibiting) and taking door prizes with him.

Well, it looks like I may plan on taking August 5th through the 7th off work and head to Titusville, PA. I missed it last year. I may try to hit up Blade Show as well this year. Who knows, I may even go to show in Georgia as well. :D

If I have money, I will attend Blade. Otherwise, I generally punt. I just won't go there unless I have at least $1000 cash in my pocket. I would love to visit GEC or Queen's factories, but I don't get up that way much any more.

There were simply piles of old slip joints at the Dalton show. I am not very knowledgeable about such things and it was sort of over my head. Gobs of old Schrade USA's and that is probably what I will be looking for this year... specifically a 250T. I found a Blackjack Trail Guide at a fair price there last year and was pleased with that acquisition.

I thought this might be of interest, from http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk...ne-s-sheffield-bowie-knife-surprise-1-7070641 - There's a video at the link too

Rocky superstar Sylvester Stallone proved a knockout hit with fans when he punched out stories from his legendary Hollywood career at Sheffield City Hall.

And the 68-year-old could be about to plug the city of steel in his planned last Rambo film, called Last Blood.

Little Mester Reg Cooper, aged 83, presented the movie icon on stage with a Sheffield Bowie knife he hand made, based on the original design which were mass-produced for export to the US in 1850.

It helped to inspire the famous Rambo knife design and now Reg, who has been making the knives for 70-years, hopes his city gift may end up in Rambo’s hands on the silver screen.

Stallone thinks it’s a great idea. He laughed: “Yes, wouldn’t that be something! I’d say, ‘hey, it’s from Sheffield’. We will actually do a plug.”

Reg, from Dronfield, said: “This is the highlight of my career and I’ve been making these since I was 14. To be honest I’m chuffed about it.

“It would be great to see my knife in his film. At 83 I’ve probably got a bit of stardom. If I’m going to retire, I’m going out on a high. But I intend to go on while I can. I’ve made thousands over the years.

“I don’t have 50 on order. But I might after this. To me a knife is a tool though I make a lot of these now just for collectors. It’s piece of history.”

We’ve had some very unEnglishly low temperatures here this winter, with cold winds blowing straight from Siberia to further chill my ageing ears! Help is now at hand though! Just a few minutes ago, a rescue package arrived from Meako and the New South Wales Fire Brigades in the shape of this shapely Mount Perisher issue winter-warmer. Thanks a lot mate, you’re a star! Do your worst Siberia, old Jack is now fully prepared!
