"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I am a bit partial but South Carolina is not too bad. We get what we call "winter" for several weeks from January to February. Might snow every 2-3 years. Very short spring and fall seasons and a lot of hot weather in between.

I would recommend anyone considering moving here to spend a week here in late July and August. If you can put up with the oppressive heat and humidity, you will do fine.

I got up this morning and we had a light dusting of snow I had to sweep off with a broom. But temps were down in single digits. I'm gettin' too old for this. Maybe I have to give more thought to going down Key West way in the winter and getting a job on a fishing boat cleaning the catch and doing serious drinking. Maybe take on the Walter Brennen role of Eddie in "To Have And Have not."

When I was a kid, I was bit by a dead bee. The bee got crushed. I picked be up. Why not? It was dead, and I’d never seen a bee close up.

Turns out it wasn’t quite dead. It stung me good. :grumpy:

There aren’t many movies that are better than their parent book. To Have and Have Not is one. I’d rather re-watch the movie than re-read the book.

When I was in second grade one of my older brothers and I were in the woods in a double decker tree house. My head hit a wasps nest. By the time I was able to jump out of the tree I'd been stung 14 times just on the head, neck, and face. My brother threw me over his handle bars and hauled ass home. I've never seen him more scared before or since.
 
Sometimes dogs are my favorite people.

Besides my kids and grandson..and most of the time my wife. My dogs are my favorite people!:)

They don't make movies like that anymore either! Bogy was the man, Brennen was the great sidekick, and a young Bacall packed more sex appeal into a single line than than all the bleached blond pumped up and liposuctioned babes in Holliwood nowadays could muster.

"You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow!" Then she slinks out the door with more slink that a real slinky from Toys-R-Us.

Ive had Zoe now 10 years and would not have made it through my mid 20s without her. I swear she is smarter than 85% of people. She is a mix I found at a pound and she has been an angle. I once had the bright idea of putting her in the back of my truck. She jumped. The vet said it would be 2,500 for emergency surgery or put her down. Within a second my credit card was on the table. That was 8 years ago. I think she may know me better than my wife, but don't tell Laura that. :D

Lauren Bacall was only nineteen, acting in her first movie.

Hoagy Carmichael contributed a lot of music to the Great American Song Book, including: Heart and Soul, I Get Along Without You Very Well, Lazybones, Georgia on My Mind, and, from To Have or Have Not, the Hong Kong Blues.

Kites I shipped home from Afghanistan last month. Onion skin paper and bamboo. Miracle they made it relatively unscathed. Only a small tear in one.

They are magnificent Leghog.
Now when you fly 'em be sure to have a large clear area with no trees ,bushes,fences ,wires,
long grass-that sort of thing
OR WATER so don't fly 'em at the beach.:thumbup::D
