"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Well, yeah, I'd have not a thing to worry about for Valentine's Day if only I'd learned to talk that Frenchy talk like you did, Jack! :D:D

It's about all I've got left going for me! :D

Jack, the horse and rider reminded me of an incident of mine with a wild pony when I was about 10.

After dusting myself off my dad calmly said, "pony stopped, rider didn't".

My grandad said, "he ain't worth a burnt match".

At least he was talking about the pony, not me :)

Great story Jerry :D

I learned years ago that v-day is NOT the best time to go out for a dinner date. Tonight I'm stayin' home with the missus and cooking up a nice chicken satay with an Asian salad. We'll save the restaurant outing for early next week to avoid the crowds.

Combined with a forecast of snow and freezing rain here on Monday, it's turned plumb crazy.

HA! I just read this and laughed! I tried to warn my son last night that It probably wasn't a good idea trying to go out for dinner with his girlfriend.

Long story short. They both came over a few hours later saying the lines were out the door and they wont ever be doing that again! :D

Sometimes these things just have to be learned! :D

From the man cave window today. I just got in from running the snow blower. Today's high is expected to be 0 degrees F with a wind chill of -25 F. I'm in for the day!

Stay warm folks!

Sorry you have to go through that, but better up there than down here!:D

I got up this morning and we had a light dusting of snow I had to sweep off with a broom. But temps were down in single digits. I'm gettin' too old for this. Maybe I have to give more thought to going down Key West way in the winter and getting a job on a fishing boat cleaning the catch and doing serious drinking. Maybe take on the Walter Brennen role of Eddie in "To Have And Have not."

"Aw come on Harry, just a short one?" :D

At least it wold be warm!

I keep telling my wife I'd like to move to one of two places, Reggio Calabria in Southern Italy or Santa Barbara, CA. She's not having any of that because our sons are both in Central New York. Days like this might change her mind though..... :D

Wife and I went to a local steakhouse for lunch yesterday. Got there right after it opened, excellent food, excellent service, no crowd, and cheaper than supper.

Please send some to California. It is unseasonably warm, even for us. We've had recent brush fires during what is supposed to be the rainy season.

We had another 12-14" in my area just south of Boston to make a total of 98" all within the last three weeks!!! There's no place to put it anymore. Now the extreme cold. I too am getting too old for this. My wife and I have been talking about making a move soon. I was hoping to stick it out up north here until my grandson gets through high school. But that's another four more years. Not sure I can take it that much longer. :(

And here I was thinking my feet were cold in Tennessee.
I wouldn't mind some of that snow as long as it was here Monday night and gone by Friday evening. Even teachers like a snow day once in a while. :D

Hey Bob, there are lots of "snowbirds" in my neck of the woods and many who have made it their permanent home. Most of the ones I talk to lament why they didn't make the move sooner. If you have the means I say go for it! We would love to have ya! ;)

I can't stand the cold, personally. It was high 40's here last night and I was hurtin'. Never seen snow up close, actually, and I plan to keep it that way for as long as possible! Not to say I haven't done my share of traveling, I just do it in the warmer months. :D

We considered Florida Phil. I think I prefer something a little in between though. We have friends in S. Carolina so that's one area on our short list. I'm not ruling out FL though. We have other friends in FL. and they are not completely happy. I think their mistake was moving into a gated community. That's a huge negative on my end. Not for me.

We're seriously looking at the Clearwater/Seminole area. Also considering Sarasota/Bradenton neck of the woods.

I agree on the gated community! No deed restrictions for me. Don't wanna risk fines and penalties from an overzealous HOA because I forgot to bring in my trash cans by 9 AM sharp!

Being from Michigan originaly I wont ever miss the snow. The deer hunting is another thing...I do miss that!!

Carl- I'm born & raised in Sarasota, currently living in Bradenton! Would love to show you around some time! And I'm sure Evan would be happy to give you a tour of his shop!
