"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I Always thought I'd really like to meet some of you folks in person someday. No luck yet, but who knows?
Meanwhile, good on you both :)

Well, I finally got down here to Georgetown, and had time to relax a bit. We're pulling out for Mammoth Lakes California in the morning. My late breakfast with Chris was great!! A very nice young man and one I'd welcome into my family. Typical of the people I've met from this forum. Looking forward to meeting up with members around here in the Heart of Texas.

Chris, catch you again since I'm going to be making this trip back and forth looking for homes in Georgetown and selling my place in Maryland. I'm learning the route good enough to drive it on auto pilot!

:D

Sounds like you're doing plenty of travelling Carl. There seem to be plenty of great members down in Texas, who I'm sure will welcome you with open arms :) Good luck with all you have to do my friend, I've got to admire your energy

We made it to California last night and met up with the family. Here we are up at Convict lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains this afternoon.

There really are something Carl :) Good to see that you still have your bodyguard Ivan with you too! :D

I never leave home for dangerous areas without him. Since this is an active bear area, I figured to take along a minder that's the size of the average bear.:D

Plus he carries Briana over the rougher parts!

LOL! :D Great stuff Carl, and another great pic too :)

Wonderful pics Carl.

I hope to get out that way one day. There, and a dozen other National Parks.

Looks like you all had a lot of fun.

I will share with you this beautiful gift my wife presented me with for my birthday. This is an Arne Mason slipcase for my Johnny Stout folder. Arne Mason slipcases are standard issue when you buy a Ron Lake folder or a Micheal Walker folder, which range in price from $5,000 to $80,000. The embossing is 23k gold.

Here is a description from Arne's website:

Each knife sheath is handmade from the finest Nigerian goatskin leather, tanned in England for the bookbinding trade. It is beautifully supple and durable, particularly well suited for displaying and protecting fine folders.

The cases are fully lined with ultrasuede, including the flap. Only the ultrasuede touches the knife, and this soft material is free of the acids and fibers present in natural leather which can stain or scratch a highly polished handle. All seams are turned in, leaving a uniquely clean and finished look.

I am very happy with it and have a wonderful, loving wife. A few pics and thanks for looking,

What a great gift, Kris! Happy Birthday to you! Kudos to the Mrs.

A lot of people think of California as urban L.A. wall to wall people. So far we've found a lot of very empty real-estate. Here's high plains desert at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's.

Here's Mono lake, a salt lake with a salinity many times higher than the ocean. The weird rock formations are from calcium and other minerals that were pushed up by pressure.

There I was just walking along looking at the nature trail markings and I ran into a familiar lady.

A long way from the Southern California freeway!! A dirt mouton road on the way to Bodie, a old ghost town from the gold mining days.

Granddaughter Briana learning to clean one of the trout we caught fishing this morning. Son in law John, (Olaf the Terrible) is supervising closely. At age 6, Bree is showing a love of sharp cutlery. We're eating good tonight!

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he gets a hobby that becomes a fanatical religion for the rest of his life.
