"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

In this particular instance, I see it as more GT's carefully responding to specific images/posters and acknowledging their contributions, with the images quoted in order to provide reference-- especially in a thread such as the Totin' Today one, a fast-moving train in which pages quickly go by. For those of us often on shorter time, this is easier to follow than just someone's forum name and remark, requiring one to scroll back a few pages to try to figure out what's being mentioned or clarified.

(I'm a little perplexed at GT's being singled out, as his form of responses requires time and care to carry out, and demonstrates conscientious appreciation of members here and their contributions.)

This is different than quoting an entire post or more of multiple pictures simply to say, "Nice."

Though perhaps I'm missing something?

A challenge, either way, to see, acknowledge, and follow-up on questions asked in the busy-er threads, without adding additional clutter.

I agree Totally with this. For a minute I thought I was accidently in the General Knife Discussion section instead of on the Porch. I respectfully suggest if we are opposed to another members posting it should be handled by PM or visitor message. Let's keep the porch both friendly and welcoming.:)

Good point, Sarah and Randy. Gary's not the only person that multi quotes, I do it myself, although how he has the patience and organization to include so many quotes baffles me. :D.

In KJ's defense, it can be a bear to view these forums when you have a slower internet connection. I think I recall KJ mentioning that somewhere here.

Sometimes I turn off the images to speed things up. It can be tedious (but not always) at times. I'm guilty of it myself.....

As usual, I agree with Sarah. :)
I see a big difference between someone carefully selecting pictures to comment on (especially if the quoted picture is from several pages back) and someone just hitting "reply with quote" to something that is right there in the post above.

We've been here before haven't we? Certainly doesn't bother me, and I have a terrible internet connection. GT edits his posts very carefully and thoughtfully I think

Today I thought I'd try to do something about fettling some of the fleamarket folders I've accumulated over the past couple of months...

The table won! :grumpy: Again! :o

I like that pile Jack. I'm hoping to get to a good sized flea market/antique show today...we'll see what happens.

For what it's worth, I still consider myself new here (joined in May 2015) and I've never felt more welcome in a web community than I do here. If there are cliques, I'm blissfully unaware of them.

same here! maybe they just have seats next to each other on the porch!

Or you're in one, and don't know it. ;)
:D

I understand how a significant amount of photo reposts can be distracting, but most of the time I like seeing the knives again (note: I have a very good internet connection).

I have felt very welcomed here in the Traditional Forum by several people. I've been on BF for many years, but only really active in Traditional for this last year. GT's comments are part of that welcoming attitude here and I think he is indiscriminate in his compliments.

As long as no forum rules are broken, I think the mods are not going to fuss overly much about how posts are quoted.

I usually remove pics from posts I am quoting, unless I am commenting on some feature in the picture. But, I always post from a desktop computer so all the text and IMG marks are clear. I imagine that those who post from a phone have a harder time editing and making things look nice. (I can't tell you for sure, I still use a MIL spec flip phone because I only have to charge it every couple of weeks and because it's reasonably indestructible.)

A certain amount of grace on the part of all parties concerned will smooth all the rough edges, I am certain.

I certainly wouldn't trust my fat fingers to post from my phone! Nor my middle-aged brain for that matter! :D
