"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Just been HOPELESS trying to get on the Forum or to use it at all these past few days.

Hope the issues can get resolved.

I've had difficulty on and off Will, hope it's all fixed by tomorrow.

Connor
I was interested to read your posts, Will and Connor. I thought that something might have gone wrong with my ISP(s), but perhaps the problems I've experienced lie with BF. (For some reason, I couldn't post a particular reply in one specific thread last night, despite my best efforts and unusual patience.)

I have long been an admirer of the looks of traditional knives, but I stuck with one hand openers for their cool factor. Flippers, frame locks etc. Gigantic knives like the Skirmish and SMF that feel like boat anchors in your pants pocket. Too big to carry really. Then I got into old design fixed blades, like the Kephart and Hudson Bay camp knife, and fell in with the bushcraft crowd at Scott Gossman's campouts. They only had fixed blades and maybe a few SAKs and old slipjoints. They got the job done. I got out and used my personal knives for more than just opening packages of new knives, and found that I like slipjoint blades the best. You can actually cut!

God help me, because I've been looking at big gigantic frame lock knives again. I have no use for them. But they look so good. One good thing about being poor this month... I can't buy any new knives!

i hear ya man, i said no more to knives but here i am, one razor from bear mgc coming and 3 gecs on the way. this was suppose to be my rolex money :(

I know I made my brags about no more than $100 a month for a new years resolution in a post somewhere and it's just April and this month alone I've bought a Case Saddlehorn, an old Schrade Lockback, A GEC Hayin' Helper, An old Western Bowie, 5 misc; older slippies at the flea market and the GEC Beer Scout I bought from you. Also thanks for the heads up on the Barlow but I don't know why but I just got to have that Boker 494. There's just something about the combination of the blades, and that long bolster with Bokers Tree Brand logo on it that flips my switch.

Interesting. I too experienced that. My PC acted poorly after that. I immediately did a scan and found bad files. I turned AdBlocker back on for this site.

Thanks for that info, Jerry. That explains why I've been getting some message about my browser being checked when I try to link to the BF site yesterday and today.

I checked it out before I logged back in to be sure it was legit. I run Safari with Adblock Plus on my Macs.

I have a Submariner I received as a retirement gift from the company I worked for I never wear. As a matter of fact when I first got it I wore it all the time and the doggone thing would loose about a minute or so every few days so by the time I would think to check, it would be a few minutes behind and that drove me crazy. I keep it because of the sentimental value and also because my son has claimed it as soon as I'm gone. I wear an Invicta that looks almost exactly like it my wife bought for my birthday a few years back and it does the same thing. Now my go to time piece for accurate time is my cell phone cracked screen and all but It was free when I renewed my contract. :D

that is a fantastic gift for all your services! did you wind it? or have it checked? i collect time pieces, and a while back during the photobucket fiasco i was going to share pictures of the 5 pocketwatches i bought during my week of bronchitis, but it kept messing up

Forums down all day, but it looks like we're back! I missed you all. :D

Normally, I'd go outside and play, but it was raining. :( so I finally got around to loading tang stamp charts from my computer to my phone for quick reference when out shopping the flea markets.

Hi folks, hope everyone is well and having a good weekend. Many thanks for all the well wishes and advice, all greatly appreciated, I just didn't want anyone to be too worried about me :) I've had back problems 40 years, but this sciatica is a first, and dragging on longer than I'd anticipated. Painful to sit at my computer chair, so I may be away a few more days yet. Miss y'all :)

Jack

Thanks for dropping in, if only temporarily, to give us a status report, Jack!
I hope you vanquish the scourge of sciatica soon, and discover an effective routine to keep it at bay.
My somewhat unreliable memory suggests that you once posted a picture of some 19th century contraption that held a book for someone trying to read in bed; perhaps you could adapt that to make your computer usable while you're flat on your back on the floor! ;)
Hope to see you back to normal soon, Jack; the Porch is certainly different without your presence!

edit: also finished my new skull ring for now, http://imgur.com/a/txv5X got some admirers. my custom jewelry business might be taking off soon

Glad to hear from you Jack. You need to get someone to rig up an articulated laptop thingamajiggie or somethin! Hang in there!

Sorry Jack I didn't see you had been dealing with Siatica. Hang in there as I know a few family members that struggle with it. Hope it eases up soon.

Nice work on the rings mrknife! Sent you an email:thumbup:
