"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Thanks you guys -good to know I'm not the only one.
No offence meant to teenagers or problematic skin conditions either.
Of course I shouldn't complain. Its just that in the past things have gone smoothly in my favour and you kinda get used to that as the standard.Happy days.
Lately though its been like trying to skateboard up a scree slope.
The big question is
"What will Charlie choose to mediate Meakos misguided meanderings ?" :)
I have no idea so I'm looking forward to a big surprise.

Food for thought-
Anna Creek Station is the world's largest working cattle station.[1] It is located in the Australian state of South Australia. Its area is roughly 6,000,000 acres (24,000 km2; 9,400 sq mi) which is slightly larger than Israel. It is 1,977,000 acres (8,000 km2; 3,089 sq mi) larger than its nearest rival, Alexandria Station in the country's Northern Territory and over seven times the size of the United States' biggest ranch, King Ranch in Texas, which is 825,000 acres (3,340 km2; 1,289 sq mi). [2]
Meanwhile-the porch crew scan the universe for the next knife related drama.

Interesting about the cattle station. I too find myself missing out a lot, mostly at things at the flea market, as knives online can always be found again later on (the porch is a place of good fortune and friends). Usually I am simply broke, amd I'm still sorry for missing out on buying 3 mint 70s peanuts for 20 each. Could have had a nice knife, given one away, and sold the other to still wind up making money! :grumpy:
Alors, just as Corey said, appreciate what you have now.

ooo i once got an infraction for complaining that someone beat to the 2014 bladeforums knife like 2-4 times in a row, within a few weeks. same person! i was complaining to myself cause i missed the tc clip red soup bone barlow the other day, seller posted it at midnight and I have bed time for work :(. these things come and go! missed a 48 big clip a while ago too. but the 2014 blade forums knife was one I openly griped about. Glad it all worked out for ya!

Griping in an exchange thread about any topic will garner a warning, as it did you.
You have not been infracted or officially warned for any posts in this forum.

Apologies for my current absence from the forum. I'm suffering a particularly debilitating attack of sciatica at the moment, but hope to be back soon.

Jack

Very sorry to hear that, Jack. I'll be keeping you in my prayers. I've come to rely on your comments to brighten my day, and I eagerly await your return to healthiness and subsequent return to the porch.

Once in a while I have to step away for a while, not buy any new knives, and turn my attention on appreciating the beauties that I already own. It's really easy to get caught up in the next thing and forget about how blessed we all are to already posses some fantastic pieces. It also helps to remember that this is a long term hobby. There's no urgency to pick up a specific knife right now, and there's nothing coming out right now that won't come up again some time down the line.

Agreed and well said.

I too am finding myself consumed by consumption. I'm starting to feel like my cars and watches are possessing me, but now I can add pocket knives (traditional).

When I come back from my debauchery fueled consumption of Europe; I am streamlining some of my possessions and my life. I have way more stuff than I could ever use.

I've seen members become obsessed with getting knives...not that I haven't. In my little time here, I've seen some crazy behavior to 'over pay' for a knife. I told myself a few months ago that I won't do it ever again; unless it's something I really want in EI.

Really hope your getting good care and/or rest, Jack. To feeling better, pal!

I know it's different, but my spinal injury (piece of my spine sheared off in a car accident) can predict the weather and can be the cause for couch surfing if a particularly bad storm is coming in. Luckily I am able to fight through it, with good old twice daily ibuprofen 800mg, and Salonpas. Do you have any hot ointments available to you? Salonpas seems to be my go to. A little more than a dab will feel like a chemical burn. I put it on my knees and legs, broken leg from the accident, swelling, shin splints etc. I feel like I'm able to run once the ointment gets deep. My back hurts after a mile walking. Hills, flat terrain, no difference. Reach for the Salonpas. Heat seems to work best.

It looks like they have it for sale in UK at major pharmacies. Search for Salonpas UK. Any relief you can get.

I apologize as this is being posted so late. I don't get to post as often as I have in the past...Busy, Busy!!! No complaints about being busy, just BUSY:o:D

Awhile Back (r redden) sent me a pm and in the pm he mentioned that he noticed it was my birthday back in March. In my profile I have listed that a favorite knife of mine is the CASE #6292. Well Randy being so kind and thoughtful asked for my address as he had a little something he'd like to send me!!! Shortly after Randy's pm a WONDERFUL gift set arrived in the mail. Randy had sent me a beautiful Sesquicentennial CASE #6292 knife along with a thoughtful hand written note!!!

It is often said and for good reason what a wonderful group of people reside here on our Porch---Randy is a prime example of that:cool::thumbup:

Thank you Randy for a wonderful gift, one I will hold dear forever:thumbup:

Hope you get to feeling better soon Mr. Jack. :) Thanks for letting us know.

Paul and Randy :thumbup::thumbup::)

Jack: Well wishes from across the pond. Hope you're back on your feet and feeling chipper soon. :thumbup:I had a bout of sciatica several years ago--caused by very long commutes in a car whose driver's seat listed to the left, unknown to me. Really painful! And in my case took months to clear up after I fixed the problem wit the seat.

Randy: Really nice knife a gesture of friendship! LOVE that green bone and the knife is stunning!

Congrats on turning 21 again, Paul! ;)

Jack

Very sorry to hear that JB.
I know the feeling -like when ya can't breathe properly?
When you feel better you should get to the local heated pool and do some walking up and down the pool.
Your'e not going for the olympics so take it steady and slow.

Jack, I'm very sorry to hear of your pain. Been there often. My L5 is about sitting on my tailbone and I get pinched nerve pain often if Is it wrong or bend over and lift something heavy. When it hits, it takes a few days to die down. Ihave learned one thing though; While the pain meds the VA hospital gives are okay, it's better to just drink heavily. It doesn't help the pain anymore than themes, but after enough drinks I don't give a d--m. Too busy having a good time to pay attention to pain!:D

Paul so glad you like the knife.

Jack I can certainly understand how debilitating a back problem can be. in 2009 I broke three vertebrae and ruptured four disc in an accident at work. Lots of metal in my back and a carbon fiber cage to wrap it all up. I am good to go for the most part but there are days we'll just say aren't very pleasant.
Hope you get better soon my friend.

Jack, I'm sorry to hear about that. That can be a real booger to deal with. (Please do not convert the Americanism to a UK expression:D:eek:)
