"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I apologize as this is being posted so late. I don't get to post as often as I have in the past...Busy, Busy!!! No complaints about being busy, just BUSY:o:D

Awhile Back (r redden) sent me a pm and in the pm he mentioned that he noticed it was my birthday back in March. In my profile I have listed that a favorite knife of mine is the CASE #6292. Well Randy being so kind and thoughtful asked for my address as he had a little something he'd like to send me!!! Shortly after Randy's pm a WONDERFUL gift set arrived in the mail. Randy had sent me a beautiful Sesquicentennial CASE #6292 knife along with a thoughtful hand written note!!!

It is often said and for good reason what a wonderful group of people reside here on our Porch---Randy is a prime example of that:cool::thumbup:

Thank you Randy for a wonderful gift, one I will hold dear forever:thumbup:

Randy, Sir thats a real nice thing to do for a real nice guy - good times eh? awesome stuff here Gentleman.

Jack Sir, I am sorry to hear that- Stretching - and boy do I mean stretching the Lower Back really helps this at times -terrible thing, Im sorry you are going through this my friend.

Apologies for my current absence from the forum. I'm suffering a particularly debilitating attack of sciatica at the moment, but hope to be back soon.

Jack

Ouch. :( I've been there, and it's the worst. Beyond lots of stretching and core-strengthening exercises, I've had good luck with icing down my lower back. The conventional wisdom has always been to use a warm compress, but during my last bout a doctor told me to rest with an ice pack (or bag of frozen veggies) on the area that hurts. It really worked quite well. Best of luck.

Praying that you can get some relief from the pain soon, Jack, and that you'll be able to find an effective "routine" for you that keeps the worst of it at bay in the future. Looking forward to seeing your posts here again soon!

Rest, stretch, heat, ice, whisky. Try them all, and hopefully you will feel better, Jack. :D

Mr. Black
I had been wondering about you and I don't often frequent the lounge. I will send healing prayers for you my friend. And yes physical therapy is most important indeed. Sleeping correctly is key as well. You will get strong again...see you soon

Very generous, Randy! And what a good-looking knife!

Jack, sorry to hear you're in pain. Hoping you feel better soon!

I have saw a knife I have become enamored with. It's a Boker 494 Barlow Sheepfoot main and pen secondary. I am finding myself up later than I should be searching for one. It has been so long since I've been on the search for a particular knife I forgot how obsessed you can get. It's like a drug that won't let you go until you satisfy your craving for it. I didn't quit looking last night until about 1:20 and back up this morning looking again. Have any of you experienced this or have I finally went off the deep end, lost it, gone completely nuts or jus plain old crazy. Here's a picture of one I got off of the internet.

Come in Randy .The water's lovely:D
I had had a similar experience with a gec carved pumpkin bone sunfish that went for months. The only cure is to get it.

Well, I don't stay up late searching online but I sure do think to the wee hours about knives a good bit when I'm on a binge. I'm ordering a mora or two, waiting to go to BPS to use a gift card for another EDC fixed blade, and am waiting patiently for a Case from Harald that was arriving today technically. I'm a bit bummed I wont be able to try it out tomorrow at work, but who knows I might swing home on lunch break and find it waiting.

Randy, if I see one I'll shoot you a link, if I see it in person I'll pick it up, but no guarantees I'll let it go easily :D.

Absolutely. I mentioned it somewhere out here, however, here it is again. I am consumed by consumption and my things are starting to possess me. It really is a slippery slope and I'll agree, it's like a drug. I'm going to streamline a lot of my possessions, later in the year. While I'm away for the summer, I'm going to take a hard look, at what I really want to keep.

I wanted to give a shout out to something I was given recently. It's the best salt I've ever had. I highly recommend it.

I'm in the process of streamlining also. Part of my knife collection is going to pay for the front end work done on my truck. Four ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, front end alignment, find out why the ABS and brake light are on on my dash. Then I need to get a set of new tires, after that, I'm getting new rotors and sending my current rotors off to be fixed, really not fun tapping the brakes and dancing around like a rodeo bull on warped rotors. My tax return is supposed to come in in time for the new tires and warped rotors. The truck repairs are first and foremost.

Not yet Jack but I'm going to have to stop buying so many knives. Started to buy one off the exchange a little while ago checked where I was for the month and it wasn't good. :D
