"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I recently sent a Case knife to Europe from the US. It took about 2.5 weeks. It was not held up in outgoing customs in the US, but did get held up in inbound customs at the destination, but just for a day or so.

Mine went out through Miami, Florida. It seemed to bounce around in Miami for several days between different facilities, but I think the longest actual delay was 3 days going from a regular post office hub to the international hub, and then the progress was "dark" for about a week until it arrived at the final destination.

It was not a sale but a gift, and marked as such, so perhaps different rules apply.

I'd welcome some advice please.

Seem to have had bad luck with a particular knife, a Walnut Bone Small Stockman from CASE. It's a new release and I got it from the Bay from a source I've always had excellent service from. When it arrived, the blade-play on all blades was really bad, plenty of gaps too. So, I returned it and the dealer was most helpful, promised he sent me an inspected one etc. He then sent it from Knoxville on 14th Oct, the tracking states it's STILL being processed at Customs in Chicago from 21 Oct. I contacted him again, he was apologetic and said the PO told him that Customs can hold up stuff. But, this is 14 days now in Chicago, is this usual does anybody know? Disappointed as I really liked this small knife-but it seems the Fates are agin it!

Thanks, Will

I once had a knife held up at Chicago for 10 days. I was about to give up on, then I finally got and update that it was in transit. Seems to be a common occurrence with the Chicago international terminal.

It looks like we've tried all the photo hosting sites. They all have their ups and downs. As soon as you get used to one, they crash or pester you to upgrade. If you have copies of your photos in your system, Tapatalk works like an attachment, you don't have to upload them to their site. At least that saves a major step. When PB went down today I switched to TT and so far so good. We'll see.

Morning all,

There are a number of people who I need to reply to - especially those (Jack, Ken and Will) who sent me packages. I'm sorry I've not had the chance; Claire has been admitted to hospital. She's at 34 weeks and was experiencing a lot of pain and reduced movement from baby. They're not yet sure what's going on so we're all a little worried. Good news is that everything looked OK on the ultrasound but baby is smaller than it should be. I will be in touch with those who merit it in due course when things return to normal. In the mean time I'll suffice to say that this forum is full of the most wonderful and generous people. God bless you all.

Paul

I've had a knife wait at NY Customs a lot longer than that. Tracking is a mixed blessing.

Claire and the baby are on the prayer list, Paul.

Paul, my friend, you have no need to apologize. They only thing you need to be concerned with is caring for Claire and the baby. Rest assured that you are being lifted up in prayer!
