Yeah! This is so catastrophic to this city and its metropolis.

They were storing PVC and accelerants under the bridge. Everyone who decided that, needs to be fired the whole way down.

I'm seriously going to make an exit by plane tomorrow morning. I'm out of here.

I have no idea how badly this will impact my city.

I see 4 pieces that need to be replaced.

Basically, an artery through the east, is going to have to be rerouted.

This will have to be handled in 30 days. There's no way. It might be six pieces to be replaced. Tonight is bad storms.

Blade Show will be affected - most likely - by the new Brave's stadium, but the area is much better.

The forum knife thread reminds me - I need to stop at the grocery and pick up some popcorn on the way home.

Happy birthday, Jack!!!

One of the most generous gentlemen on the forum. I hope you have many more!

Happy Birthday to you jack Black!

Thanks a lot my friends, you all made my birthday a special, I was overwhelmed with all the kind words and good wishes :) :) :)

Wow - so the Interstate actually COLLAPSED due to a fire underneath it? That's going to take months to repair.

Blimey, first I'm hearing of this, missed the news here this morning. Hope everything is going to be OK

Thanks for the grin.

Glad you had a great day.

It's my city of Atlanta, GA. The DOT just told us that both lanes are compromised and the brand new HWY 400 over-pass to HWY 85. That's really really really bad. The fire is still going underneath the collapsed road.

Maybe some of you have found out how bad Atlanta's traffic is from Blade Show. It will be an atrocity this year, due to the new Brave's Stadium. If you haven't booked your room, do it now. That area is completely redone and will cost more to do things. Plan accordingly.

I am getting out of here as soon as I have better skies.

A word of WARNING to all!

Please, tell your friends or whoever this may apply to.

If you were coming through Atlanta for spring break, avoid it like a zombie apocalypse. If you do come through here as such, make sure to use I-285, and come through in the middle of night.

Another tidbit. I-85 is compromised by where I live in Gwinnett County. It's an atrocity itself and add that 25 miles up the road it doesn't exist - this is horrible.

Once again, I urge everyone to go the long way around Atlanta. If you do come through Atlanta, take I-285 in the early AM. I would say 1-3 is a safe time to pass. Otherwise, you could be stuck in your cars for hours. If a wreck happens on I-285 it's an atrocity; but if you add all that redirected traffic and it's something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

As an example: my GF works 17 miles up the road. It takes her an hour minimally everyday to commute with some days going past 2 hours.

We're leaving today for Disney World. My route had us going straight through Atlanta. I'm going to be spending some time today researching alternate routes. Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've all been having down there. I've read some news reports, but haven't seen anything about the people that were on the bridge when it collapsed. Were many people hurt? I can't imagine having the road fall away from under you while you're driving.

It has been a good while (somewhere between 5-10 years ago) since I have been to Atlanta. I recall the traffic being rather horrible on GOOD days, even on the regular city streets. It's going to be a nightmare there for a while.

I used to fly there fairly often on business back in the 1990s and using the Interstates was something of an art form even then, especially if you were in the northern part of the city and needed to get to the airport. If you were traveling anywhere close to rush hour, and left even one minute later, it could add 10 minutes to the commute time.

They are going to have to have structural engineers inspect everything, and when the middle of a span falls like that, it may affect the structure for some distance in both directions. Plus, who knows how sturdy it was in the first place when it was originally built, compared to modern standards. Then of course the funds to repair it will have to come from somewhere, and you'll have to go through a bidding process that is probably mandated by law. Then the construction and engineering firms will have to set up their temporary offices, bring in their people and equipment, etc. Once construction begins, that whole area will be further impacted by all of that work going on and the equipment and materials being trucked in and out.

Where I live even minor Interstate repairs seem to drag on for years. I hope they can find a way to fast-track it.

It just goes to show how fragile some of our major cities are, when we become completely dependent on pretty much every piece of infrastructure being 100% available at all times. There is no surplus transportation capacity.

From what I read, emergency workers were able to stop and divert traffic before the collapse happened, so no injuries were reported.

Just a reminder folks - don't believe anything you read on the Internet for the next 36 hours or so.

I could honestly be in a "Walking Dead" type of scenario.

I-85 through Atlanta is shut down one way.

We have traffic that rivals LA's.

This is really really really bad.

I want to fly over to get pics, but I bet the air traffic will be nuts.

Unbelievable what must be going on down there[emoji15][emoji15]🤢🤢
