"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

The forum knife thread reminds me - I need to stop at the grocery and pick up some popcorn on the way home.

and a gross of double aught buck
(whatever that is ? sounds like ammo for a shotty-I got the line from the movie where Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor go to prison:thumbup:)

I never saw that one for some reason. But yes, 00 buckshot is pellets of .33 caliber. When Steve McQueen asks for some in The Getaway, the guy asks him if he's going to knock down a wall with it.

I wouldn't want anything to do with producing a forum knife unless the design could be chosen by a series of polls with no space for comments.
How long, how many blades, what blades, etc.

There's a box of 00 buckshot in this picture. I shoot them quite often in the street sweeper in my avatar and they pack a real punch. There are 9 pellets in a 12 gauge shell to give you an idea of the size of the pellet
meako.

jesus! randy what are you hunting with that thing?!

Can't we just all get an Opinel and carve in a 'BF'?!

Rats! You figured out the plan.
And I'm only half joking.

I will say that Opinel (or at least the US importer/distributor for Opinel) does a very nice job of engraving both blades and handles. I've had a few done before, and they've turned out great. They also do bulk/corporate orders with logo artwork, etc. Is it the same as the Forum knife as we've known it? Of course not. But if it came down to that or nothing, I'd be perfectly happy with a BladeForums Opinel.

(Then we could all argue about which size we should order, carbon or stainless, engraving location, fonts...)

I suggest we each buy an Opinel of our choice, and arrange for a particular time to all log on and carve "BFC" on our knives in a live streaming, world-wide, synchronized modification event.

I like Barrett's idea. However, Rachel, I can handle "we each buy an Opinel of our choice", but after that, you're suggesting tasks that are all outside my skill set!:o

But that's the beauty of it. Each knife will be individually customized - from refined to rustic in execution.
If EARL could do it, I'm sure you can. :D

I bet I could make up a "BFC" branding iron for my soldering gun for that job - the question then becomes, which opinel to I brand?
the no 8 carbone or the no 9 gardener?

Good point! EARL was many things, including a symbol of hope! :D
Maybe I could do the blade instead of the handle with some sort of patina monogram like I attempted on this Joker:

My birthday gift from my wife. Not lost on me that she enjoys the game as much or more than I do. Rare is the day we don't play at lease one three-round match. One of the oldest games extant today.

Nice Backgammon set leghog. I have one identical to that one. My grandson and I play quite often. We're big fans of the game.:thumbup:

Beautiful gammon table leghog:thumbup: Sure brings back memories from my college days. Our game was backgammon when everyone was playing poker. We would regularly have 2-3 games going in a dorm room. I'm going to pick it up again!
