"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

For those who mostly hang out in Traditional, the site owner, Spark, is about to change the forum software. The current software is somewhat outdated. The new software has new added features, and fixes some buggy features in the current software. You can try out the new software here:

The new site can be seen here: http://xf.bladeforums.com

I'm still messing with it but feel free to go over and check it out. Full transition will come in the next week or two. Don't buy ads or memberships though, please.

Happy birthday Bill great present from your bride. I've never plated Backgammon but really enjoy board games.

Tonight is a TV night for me. I am a Star Wars junkie so this afternoon while perusing that South American River site searching for when Rogue One would be available on Blu Ray I discovered that a digital copy could be purchased and downloaded now. So like any good Jedi Wannabe I bought it and have it ready to go on the TV in our living room. It's one of those 60 inch HD models with a Bose sound system so it is almost like being at the theater. A bag of Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn in the microwave and a bottle of ice cold Frostie Root beer (I have a 6 pack). I just put on my PJ's and slippers so needless to say I'm set for the night. Y'all have a good night cause this old man is going to settle in on an adventure to outer space. :D

Nice leghog. My wife and I used to play, but I think life intervened along the way. Would be fun to start again. You've inspired me🤙

leghog, nice B-day gift!!! Even though backgammon is one of the oldest board-games it is still played worldwide for a reason, I play whenever I get a chance.

Randy, you definitely are a man who knows how to enjoy himself!!!

Thanks for the heads-up Frank

Happy Birthday Leghog  We must have been born within a few days of each other!

Rats! You figured out the plan.
And I'm only half joking.

I will say that Opinel (or at least the US importer/distributor for Opinel) does a very nice job of engraving both blades and handles. I've had a few done before, and they've turned out great. They also do bulk/corporate orders with logo artwork, etc. Is it the same as the Forum knife as we've known it? Of course not. But if it came down to that or nothing, I'd be perfectly happy with a BladeForums Opinel.

(Then we could all argue about which size we should order, carbon or stainless, engraving location, fonts...)

I suggest we each buy an Opinel of our choice, and arrange for a particular time to all log on and carve "BFC" on our knives in a live streaming, world-wide, synchronized modification event.

I like Barrett's idea. However, Rachel, I can handle "we each buy an Opinel of our choice", but after that, you're suggesting tasks that are all outside my skill set!:o

But that's the beauty of it. Each knife will be individually customized - from refined to rustic in execution.
If EARL could do it, I'm sure you can. :D

I bet I could make up a "BFC" branding iron for my soldering gun for that job - the question then becomes, which opinel to I brand?
the no 8 carbone or the no 9 gardener?

LOL! :D

"Stir Crazy".

Thank You Sir.I have a steel trap mind for that movie but I never remember the title- and no i don't cheat by looking it up on glugle:D
I love the scene where the bad guys rob the bank by doing the woodpecker dance and singing the song in their gruff voices-:o
Pretty sure its the evil warden who mentions double aught buck.

oooh close-but that was Cleavon Little as the Sherriff and Wilder as the Cinncinatti Kid-wanna see it again?

Gene Wilders character was the Waco Kid. The Cincinnati Kid was a movie starring Steve McQueen in the title role as a professional gambler.

I stand corrected. Thank You.
I offer you a laurel ...
and hardy handshake.

yes, I remembered it incorrectly. I couldve sworn the original choice was going to be Richard Pryor. had to google that to be sure. wikipedia to the rescue.

Good idea:)but Ill let you in on a little secret.
No Australians drink Fosters.

how about a Cooper's instead?
Interesting piece of info I recently found out - one of my coworkers maiden name is Boddington - and yes, she is related to that family, just not the wealthy branch.

So, I have been getting more and more enamored with Ren Wax. I'm rubbing it on my collector queens and liking the results. I had an old 60ml can that seems to still be up to the task after probably ten years? Ordered another just because. Any thoughts or warnings about Ren Wax? I'm finding it makes steel and natural cover material look great. Is there a downside?

But… but… the TV commercial said that Fosters was "Australian for Beer"?!

Next you're gonna try and tell us that the Bloomin' Onion at Outback Steakhouse isn't Australia's national dish! :D
