"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

23 skidoo! Oh, you kid!

I don't know what that means, but Bugs Bunny said it, so it must be consonant with piety and good health.

Our next Major League baseball game will be at Nationals Park on 4July 2017. A great day to enjoy America's Pastime.

Jack, I don't think this is what is meant by the english "toad in the hole", it seems very contented in it's dwelling. I wasn't sure what had made the hole until I checked on it late this afternoon.

There's much to like on the Forum. I like liking those posts that strike a chord, problem is I'm CONSTANTLY being logged off or told I'm logged off when I've just logged on! This has just happened three times this morning in the space of a handful of minutes. Like it not...

Jack I get logged off as well another thing that happens is I will try to quote someone like I just did with you and I get a pop up that says the quote can't be found.

I remain of the opinion that it's pretty darn rubbish all in all Randy :(

Will Power Will Power I noticed this happens to me quite frequently when I am using Microsoft's Edge browser. I simply switched to a different browser and I have had no problems since. If you are using Edge or Internet Explorer, you might consider switching to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Now if you are using a phone, I am not sure what to tell you about that. I use Google Chrome on my phone by default and have yet to experience any issues.

I use Chrome on my PCs and my Android-OS phone, and never seem to get logged off, and whenever I open the link to the site I am auto-logged in. I do check the "keep me logged in" option (or whatever it is titled). Though I never had much problem with IE for that matter, it just seems a little slower.

I use Chrome on both my phone and PC. I was getting logged-out regularly in the first couple of weeks after the software changes, but it hasn't happened for a while

Photobucket is now charging $399 a year for 3rd party hosting (i.e. posting photos on a forum) !!

I read that in the Tech forum Jake :( I took Frank's advice, nearly a year ago, shelled out $10 a year for 'ad-free', and haven't had too many problems since. When I first started posting here, I used ImageShack, that was free and I had no problems for several years. Then they suddenly started charging. They promised to keep hosting previously uploaded images, but they didn't. I know a lot of people have moved to Imgur, but I imagine it will only be a matter of time before they pull the same stroke as ImageShack and Photobucket :(

Unfortunately, this will probably cause a lot of photos to be missing from old posts.

I think http://imgur.com/ still allows 3rd party hosting.

Yikes! Well that is yet another reason to ditch a rather abysmal image hosting platform... Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to resolve this. Even switching all of your photos over to a different platform is a monolithic task.

Interesting. I am still inclined to think that the forum software just isn't playing nice with the Edge browser, perhaps others as well. Seems to be rather stable on Chrome, I would be curious as to what browser Will Power Will Power is using.

Imgur used to charge for their "Premium" service known as Imgur Pro and it was around $24 a year. However, they decided to ditch that plan in 2015 and make it to where they are completely ad-supported. Makes the service free though users will have to deal with ads... Though I do not recall having to deal with any ads. Considering that Imgur has built itself on the concept of being a more stable, user friendly, and inexpensive image hosting platform, I feel it unlikely that they will go the way of PhotoBucket and others of its ilk.

Trying really hard not to sound like an Imgur fanboy here but I have used other image hosting platforms in the past and they usually resulted in monstrous headaches and a steady stream of profanity. Imgur is the service that has been headache free since the moment I started using it. I could be wrong, of course, but I feel Imgur has a lot to gain by not following in PhotBucket's footsteps.

I cut my teeth here on Imgur and used it right up to the new s-ware rollout. (I now upload directly.) Nothing but good things to say about it, except that IIRC one could not pull BB code directly from the Android app.
