"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

The Photobucket thing is pretty infuriating. With the exception of a few very early posts (for which I used, I think, TinyPic), all of the photos I've shared here now show up as Photobucket's annoying pay-us-$400-a-year speedometer. :(

I may go back and edit a couple threads (I really enjoy posting in the "Traditional Knives in Movies" thread, so I may re-host those screenshots and edit the links in my posts there), and thankfully I still have all the photos I've ever put up on Photobucket stored elsewhere, but it's pretty disappointing that most of the photos I've ever posted here won't show up in my posts anymore. (I went through a lot of other non-Porch-friendly terms before settling on "infuriating" and "disappointing." :D)

Ok, I downloaded all my new ( and only remaining ) photos from PhotoBucket - copied them and opened up a new account on Imgur!
Here goes..... lets try again with Izzy..

John, Thank you for your guidance with this transition kind Sir.:):thumbsup:

Good looking pup you've got there, Duncan!

One thing to note for anyone who comes across the Photobucket speedometer thing in old posts: you can still see the image by right clicking the speedometer image and clicking "Open Image in New Window." It isn't ideal, but as long as the user hasn't removed the image from Photobucket, it can still be viewed at the link in the post, just not imbedded in the post itself.

Great pics Duncan, my friend :)

I have to say that I'm finding this all pretty awful, looking through the old/longstanding threads and seeing so many of the photos replaced by the Photobucket's ransom demand. I have more old photo-heavy threads than most I think, which is the only reason I'll continue paying PB for now. I did think about slowly re-editing some of the more recent and relevant threads, and replacing the pics with ones hosted elsewhere, but unfortunately the new BF software won't allow the re-editing of most of those threads :(

I went to imgur from dropbox when dropbox made my public folder private and no details they referred me to explained how to make the pix public again. Those pix are still sitting on dropbox but invisible here, and I don't care.
I feel for those of you who've posted ambitious threads and those of us who'd like to read them again, though.

Maybe I should try the direct upload ploy.

One at a time goes in one step. Selecting 3 at a time goes in clickable thumbnails. How about 2 images selected and uploaded separately?

I seem to have done a couple of extra clicks. (Scroll down to see if your 2cd image has uploaded before you assume it hasn't.)
I don't know how well the direct upload works for more complex posters, but I don't think I need a photo-hoster.

Izzy is a beautiful girl Duncan.

Trial image upload:

Seems OK so far (although the thumbnail option is too small, and the full size option seems quite large). What's it look like when I post it?

ETA: OK, I guess. Maybe I don't need a photo hosting site either, although last time I tried uploading a pic, I ran into size constraints. I assume these attachments are essentially using BF as the host? If everyone does this, does BF have enough capacity to store them all?

GT, I think Bladeforums provides 20MB of storage with a Gold membership. That's a small amount of space but good enough for 200 photos that are 100kb. I had much more in my Photobucket.

Btw...I don't know what happens if there's a Bladeforums membership lapse. My photos disappeared but I don't know if they are brought back after a renewal.

Padruig, mostly I use Safari as I have a Macbook not a PC. I have a smartphone but dislike using it for more or less anything and use my arrested development phone for just calls, texts&the odd multi media message.

This horror from P-Bucket means the extinction of vast amounts of archive material on the Forum, it's a barbarism like book-burning or trying to wipe out the past! I don't want to pay them anything, am inherently suspicious of direct debits-they can be raised stealthily unless you remain hawk like vigilance . Moreover, P-Bucket's service has been unreliable therefore I feel no inclination to start paying them at all. Beginning to go into a hate everything mode...:poop::mad:
Will: I use Safari on a MacBook also. I have not had the experience you have? I would suggest you look at your security settings in Preferences in Safari. You may have "allow" a special exception for BF? Just a thought.

Duncan: Great shot of Izzy! In that first photo she has a look on her face like "What the heck is Duncan doing now?" :)

Thanks Alan and GT. I'm not at all interested in Tech I'm afraid so I might be explaining this poorly.. When I go to the country place I run my Macbook through a friend's Samsung phone, this gives me the Internet connexion. It might be this that causes me to be logged off without reason. It is fairly isolated there and I use her phone as a provider, as it were.

Anyway, the P.Bucket outrage is much worse. I had an Imgur account but can't remember the password....also found it difficult to size pictures there, they came out tiny or vast I seem to recall:confused: Wonder how I can copy the P Bucket and transfer it to imgur?? It's all on the i-picture library and on cloudshare (somewhere) I need an eager tech beaver!

I've never used Pbucket, but Imgur has an option where you can download all your photos. Someone said PB has the same. They come down on your computer as a ZIP file. Then you can upload to Imgur. But, you will still lose the links to photos on BF posts, because it will be a different http link or course.

Just sayin

Here are my two Peanuts. I love them both. The first is my granddaughter. She really is tiny and I started calling her my little peanut, which for some reason she thinks is hilarious. She's good for my soul.
The second is my Case Peanut which is also good for my soul but in a much different way;)

It is indeed depressing to see photos disappearing.
I would like to speak to the PB people, but over the years I have never been able to reach them!
