"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Sarah that's two fine young men the youngest is a real talent I'm so glad you got to be with both of them.

Having had almost all my BF-posted photos hijacked by Photobucket's speedometer, I recently opened an Imgur account to share images here on the forum. I know that I'll never be able to go back and replace all my previous Photobucket photos here with new Imgur links, but there were a few threads in which I wanted to update my photos. I started working on one of those threads tonight, and I've found a pretty efficient way of doing it, so I thought I'd share that here.

  • First, you need two browser windows open, ideally side by side so you can easily click back and forth. In the first window, open BladeForums, in the other, Imgur. (You'll want to have Imgur open to your list of images, which you can get to by clicking your username in the top right, then selecting "Images").
  • In the BF window, go to the post you want to update, right-click on the Photobucket speedometer image and select Open Image in New Window. This should open the image on Photobucket's site.
  • You can drag the image from Photobucket's site and drop it directly into the Imgur window, which will upload it to your account.
  • Copy the BB Code link from the newly uploaded photo on Imgur. (You can close the Photobucket page at this point, too.)
  • Go back to your BF post and click "Edit." Delete the speedometer image and paste the Imgur link in its place.
  • Save the changes to the BF post and you should be good to go.
I replaced 50-some images in all my posts in the Traditional Knives and Movies thread this way, and it took much less time than I thought it would. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone else who has dead-link-Photobucket-speedometers that they want to replace.
Excellent suggestion Barrett.. I have not used PB, but did not think of clicking through the speedometer. This should be really helpful for those trying to replace photos.

Yesterday it rained more in one hour than usually in a month. The white on the stairs is water cascading down the subway station! This never happened since there is a parisian subway (1900)!:eek::eek:

Debarking green could result in splitting from drying too fast. I think the safest thing is to paint the cut ends with something to seal them, and leave the moisture to escape gradually through the bark.
There's a thread around here somewhere on walking sticks.

Sorry to hear of your weather adventure, by the way.
Thanks for the additional advice. In the service of science, I suppose I should strip one of my sticks and not the other and see which ends up being the better approach. But no need for me to reinvent the wheel when I can listen to voices of experience.

The weather adventure could have been much worse. With all the limbs that came down, I feel very fortunate that none were direct hits on roofs or walls or power lines of house or garage.

From "Story: I love sticks" thread.

This fork of oak was growing out of a stump by my brother's driveway. I stuffed it into these pipes to try to keep it from twisting in drying.
I think it worked, but who knows how they would have dried without the pipes.
...
Interesting photo. What plans do you have for that oak fork?
Thanks for the excerpt from the sticks thread.:thumbsup: I plan to check that thread out.

Wow! That is unreal. Must be the storm drains could not handle it all?

Enjoying the sunset. Thought this shot was funny as Adalynn was looking for a ride and Aubrey wanted to go for a walk. Hope you all are enjoying your weekend.

I didn't know you had a Pyrenees. We had one growing up, I used to ride on her when i was little. I know, that's no good for them. Beautiful dog!

That's it, 20 station had to be closed until this morning.
I've "been there" but never "done that" as the saying goes. When we go to Paris, we use the underground. Never seen anything like that my friend. I guess, neither have you? ;);)

My wife just wished me Happy Palindrome Week. Apparently every date from today through next Wednesday, in US m/dd/yy format, reads the same backwards and forwards. E.g., 7/10/17. How cool is THAT???:thumbsup::D:D:thumbsup::cool:

GT. I wish you Happy Palindrome week also.

Hiya, folks. I've been offline a lot the past few months, preoccupied with real life things; some bad, like broken water pipe and drywall repairs:rolleyes:, and some very good, like prepping my house for a new pup. I miss my old dog like crazy and there'll never be another dog like Kody but I've really missed having a fuzzy critter around the house.

I'd like to introduce Mira, a 2 year old White German Shepherd (probably) from a local rescue. She's been with me for about three and a half weeks and I think she's settling in just fine, although I've never adopted an adult dog before. I love her to bits and have since day 1.

I got my GEC knife case out last night to do some sharpening and oiling, and this happened. :p

She was facing the other way originally, but she likes to use my purse as a pillow and my purse was under the knife case. :D
