I've "been there" but never "done that" as the saying goes. When we go to Paris, we use the underground. Never seen anything like that my friend. I guess, neither have you? ;);)
Never! This is the first time this happens since they built the underground!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

It's now so rare that we are all together, rarer still some of the specific subsets.

I will not ever recover from having my oldest show up in my kitchen the way he did, nor do I want to. I miss him like thunder, and his calling will continue to take and keep him far in many ways. His sudden presence totally undid me.

But even beyond that, the overlap in the Venn Diagram representing "shared interests" among my now-grown kids and myself can be slim indeed as each of us moves further down our respective roads, slimmer two with these older two-- almost stereotypically Military and Artistic, respectively. :D

To have such a fitting, filling day together, just the three of us? Profound good; a holding thing.

My three sons together, the evening the oldest showed up:

(The other two didn't know he was coming, got home as soon as they could once they heard, and all showed up in matching clothes. o_O)

Thanks for your forbearance.

And those of you with wee bairns at home? It's all true: the days last forever, but the weeks fly by! In the midst of everything you're rightly looking forward to, don't miss the goodness of rightnow, together. :)

I'd like to introduce Mira, a 2 year old White German Shepherd (probably) from a local rescue. She's been with me for about three and a half weeks and I think she's settling in just fine, although I've never adopted an adult dog before. I love her to bits and have since day 1.

How wonderful! What a beauty.

Thanks for the pictures. I wish you guys the best, together. :)

Yesterday it rained more in one hour than usually in a month. The white on the stairs is water cascading down the subway station! This never happened since there is a parisian subway (1900)!:eek::eek:

Wow. Pretty fragile web holding things together, this civilization stuff.

Hiya, folks. I've been offline a lot the past few months, preoccupied with real life things; some bad, like broken water pipe and drywall repairs:rolleyes:, and some very good, like prepping my house for a new pup. I miss my old dog like crazy and there'll never be another dog like Kody but I've really missed having a fuzzy critter around the house.

I got my GEC knife case out last night to do some sharpening and oiling, and this happened. :p

She was facing the other way originally, but she likes to use my purse as a pillow and my purse was under the knife case. :D

My niece managed to adopt an adult dog that gets seizures. Better luck with yours. Almost looks like some Ibizan Podenco in her.
Glad to have you back.

Thanks for the additional advice. In the service of science, I suppose I should strip one of my sticks and not the other and see which ends up being the better approach. But no need for me to reinvent the wheel when I can listen to voices of experience.

The weather adventure could have been much worse. With all the limbs that came down, I feel very fortunate that none were direct hits on roofs or walls or power lines of house or garage.

Interesting photo. What plans do you have for that oak fork?
Thanks for the excerpt from the sticks thread.:thumbsup: I plan to check that thread out.
I intended to cut the best stick off the stump, but couldn't decide so I cut it lower down and took two. I expect to use the crotch as a handle for the larger branch and mortise something for a handle onto the smaller one. (I've noticed arborists say "union" now instead of "crotch". At least the more delicate ones.)
I've got a pair of beautiful straight sticks out back growing out of a broad U that I'm hoping to get a Cardigan stick out of (one piece with a right-angle handle and no steaming and bending). Have to clear it with the neighbor though, unfortunately, but I don't think he'll care.

I see good humor in those faces!
I am sure they are proud of a Mom who plays with Knives!!

Nicely put P

ATB AlwaysTomboy AlwaysTomboy , good sign that she's made herself right at home. Thanks for getting your from the shelter, there are so many out there that need a home! (We're scanning the local shelters right now.)

P pertinux pertinux , thanks for sharing! I cannot agree with you more about how fast it all happens. Ours are grown too now, about the same as yours I'd guess. Our younger daughter showed up last week at 4am without a whisper and surprised us in her old bed that morning. We had a grand few days together. It sure makes you feel lucky, but also a bit proud, that your children turn out this way, happy to come back home. (I'm tearing up a bit... must be dust in my eye. :))

My wife just wished me Happy Palindrome Week. Apparently every date from today through next Wednesday, in US m/dd/yy format, reads the same backwards and forwards. E.g., 7/10/17. How cool is THAT???:thumbsup::D:D:thumbsup::cool:

Gary, the best was 1961. A palindrome plus the same upside down. I missed 1881 and 1111.

Good point, Alan! I always watch for 1961 coins, but haven't found any (nor have I found any 1691 coins). There was a GAW here once with a knife that had a 1961 tang stamp - I really wanted to win that one, but I think Jack Black ended up winning, and it's his birth year besides, so how can anyone object to that??

Thanks for the replies and happy wishes, all. :)

That is one great looking pooch! Them ears tho! Maybe she's got some fennec fox genes?
Dude, I KNOW. Her ears are insane, and awesome. :D

I'm sorry to hear about your niece's pup. I hope the seizures are manageable with meds and that pup is happy and healthy otherwise. I had to google Ibizan Podenco, but I can see the similarity! It's dem ears again. *g*

Just wonderful. That's all I have.

Jack, the knife and newspaper clipping would bring back memories to my late dad (he had an engineers knife which I think I recall looking a little different). He, along with four of his brothers, served in WW II at the same time. My dad was the oldest of the five. As a small child my grandmother showed me the banner with five blue stars that she displayed in her window. All survived and only one was wounded.

Wonderful to read, Sarah.
And I do know about something sons suddenly appearing in their mother's kitchen. My son, who lives in Hawaii, flew home for my wife's 60th birthday...without telling her he was coming. I set it up so that she would answer the door. Mistake. She almost fainted. Fortunately, he caught her in a bear hug.

And an "au contraire" to you as well. Thank YOU for sharing.

That's an amazing contribution Jerry, I'm so glad to hear they all made it. They were certainly the greatest generation :) If you'd like one of my old WW2 newspapers, please PM me an address, and I'll send you one

Me too, my dad didn't recognise me, thought I was selling insurance or something!
