"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

For my part I'll play it safe and only use the names of members that they provide themselves.
I think this is probably the best way to approach the issue. If a member wants their first name mentioned in the discussions then "sign the post with your name". If you don't see a name, other then the official member name, don't use it.
I'm sure I've been guilty of this on occasion, I'll make a conscious effort to to follow this suggestion.
I don't think Frank or I want to, or should, get involved in whether the practice is followed. We'll leave it to you folks to do the right thing, as there are no official guidelines on this subject.

In my opinion, that's a good position Gary, after all nobody ever names anyone out of malice here, not from what I've seen anyway., and when many of us are such good friends, it's easy to slip up

Thanks Peregrin! Almost called u by your first name there.
That'd be OK, Mike, since I have Gary in the signature line of every post!
Interestingly enough though, my signature does not show up on my Android smartphone using Chrome. Drat! Now that's a conundrum.
All I can say at this point is use your best judgement, remembering that there are folks out there that would like to have some semblance of anonymity when posting.

Conundrum indeed. Your sig line doesn't show up on my iPhone as well. Glad order, for the most part, has been restored. Thanks again Gary. Party on, Garth.

I've noticed -- on an iPhone, at least -- that signatures don't show up when viewing the forum with my phone upright (portrait), but that they do show up if I turn my phone sideways (landscape). I assume its some sort of mobile-optimization function of the new software, but it means I usually only see folks' signatures if I'm reading the forums on a computer.

Interesting. I see Barrett in landscape mode but not in portrait. So, if in doubt, flip your phone display!

edited to add; ain't technology great?

I have to say I'm more confused than ever about this name use discussion. Point of maintaining a member's wish for annonimity is well taken, but then some of the same folks who are making the point go on in their own posts to use first names of others who clearly use pseudonyms only. All very confusing.

Some folks put their first names in their post signature. It could be a little confusing because you can't see signatures if you're viewing on a cell phone in portrait mode. (or at least I can't)

I'll try to be more mindful in my posting. Most folks can probably figure out that r8shell=Rachel despite my brilliantly clever and cryptic nom-de-forum. :p On the other hand, I trust that last names are off limits for all kinds of reasons, and it's an act of trust when mailing packages that the recipient should keep that to themselves.

Isn't it just?!

So is that you officially 'outing' yourself?! :D :) Hopefully, if people accept the need some have for privacy, they'll also understand that last names are off limits. Currently, that is not the case though

This is how I always approached it. Last names are off limits. When I post online, I have no real expectation of privacy anyways being that these are public forums. I'm sure I've been called worse things than anyone here will call me. :D:D:D

I was just about to post a clip of a certain airport scene from the movie Donnie Brascoe! :D Having watched it again though, some of the language is kind of colourful! :D

Bob, I thought your last name was BigBiscuit?! Bob BigBiscuit. Kinda like Bob's Big Boy. :D

Same problem with the "Why am I Mr. Pink?" scene from Reservoir Dogs. o_O :D

It's a shame, and I don't know how to 'bleep' them unfortunately! :D Now if Frank had directed those films they'd have used forum-friendly language - or else! :D ;)
