"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I don't know you but somehow this subforum has a familiar feel, and I'm sorry for you.
It's really sad to see your pics, but at the same time, it's good to feel that your attitude is positive.
Best wishes to you and your family.

Hi,

That is a sad photo, but it is as you said, just things. And it all can be replaced or not as you choose. You do still have the important stuff, the people and memories. You and yours will continue in my thoughts!

Dale

Thought I might show you all something to maybe help bring your spirits up. The newest additions to my family.

James those pics are devastating! not just the knives, but photos and memories in that place are hard to let go of. But I am glad you and yours were not injured...take care!

and those kittens are just adorable, Ash!!! I love the colors on that one to the right :D

Going for another test to see if I need to get my gallbladder taken out, this Saturday.

Lots of places to look in York, PA for old slipjoints!

I buy lots of imported goods: electronics, bicycles, optics, machetes, knives, axes, tomahawks. For some reason, when it comes to traditional folders, I'm going to buy US made when I pull the trigger. I guess it's like buying a Swiss SAK, Swedish Mora, French Opinel. Even though traditional slip joints are not indigenous to the US, I associate them with the Western expansion era. I'll probably ask my wife for a Case around the holidays.

Well, if it needs done, there's no need to pay for it. Me and Carl could take care of it. Your knives or ours, doesn't matter LOL

Yeah, I've been wanting to try out the damascus peanut for surgery! It's great on fish bellies, should have that sucker right outa there.:D:D

Doctor Carl.

Look into GEC (great eastern company)...a lot better fit and finish when buying sight unseen, case can be hit and miss.

RobertB, GEC is expensive to me. I can't justify spending that much on a knife. I understand what you are saying, though. They make very handsome knives.

Give it some time, and you won't think twice about the price lol... There have been times where Case had hit and miss qc, but most of the reports from recent purchases, seems to be very good. GEC does make some great knives, but I have always been a little partial to Case. They are one of the few remaining iconic knife companies we have left, after loosing Schrade and Camillus, and they have really been trying to bring out new models that might appeal to us knife nuts.

There are lots of great knives to be found. Spend whatever you are comfortable with, and use and enjoy them

I still say that if (big IF) you are an accomplished sharpener with diamond stones, then the Queen amber carved stag bone line is the most knife for the money. Very good F&F and W&T, and if you can get the D2 steel sharp to your liking, then you have a real winner for around $45-$65. You may even have one come sharp, as I did with a #19 trapper.

We're gonna need something with a longer blade for my fat arse.

What about that Finn knife?

PD, you could put that Dozier to good use .

;):D:barf::D

You're reading my mind. As soon as I saw that you thought the peanut was a bit small I thought of the Dozier. Just let us know if you want anything else taken out. It would only take a couple of extra seconds as long as we're inside.

Say fellers, I've been considering giving the Case Peanut another chance. The one that I had was a stainless one with olive green bone and it bit the hell out of my thumb twice, deep enough to consider going for stitches. I wrote it up to being cursed and having way too much snap on the tiny blade, so I gave it away without it having any pocket time at all.

I wish I had used it, or worked out some of the kinks to see what all the fuss is about since the peanut is quite highly regarded among many. Can you offer some advice? Think the cv ones might be a little easier on my digits, or am I better off using some of the more bulky patterns, (or should I stick to spoons)?
