Carothers and Guns

Acogs are cool and I’ve owned several but have sold them all. Much prefer the Aimpoint Comp M5.
Dang it. More stuff to remember to list up (yay, potentially more funds for CPKs 😄).

Have 2 ACOGs, and neither one gets used nowadays. Either Aimpoints (prefer the T2), or LPVOs (Razor 1-6 and Kahles K16i).

While the ACOG glass IS really good, I prefer either a simple RDS, or the flexibility of 1x, with the ability to zoom on the LPVOs. Both the Razor and Kahles have pretty amazing glass, and at 1x, are every bit as fast as an RDS (although the RDS is a lot more forgiving with eye position/relief).

Since all the big bore talk, anyone ever have the chance to shoot one of the Ross 500s? I’ve shot several 500s and 460s and always thought they were fun but the Ross is so light…..

As for the ACOGS, I have 3, recently sold one. 2 are 1.5 powers which are great cause the extended eye relief, 3rd one is a fixed 3. Super clear glass but they are kinda limited mainly cause the short eye relief and eye box

Which one were you looking at?

if you mean John Ross PC500, I don’t think is to much difference. 460s more suitable caliber for reloading, that is the reason why I have one instead 500. But anyway for me it’s like a apocalypse nuclear weapon lol

That’s the one, just I’m lazy so Ross 500 works 🤣. I thought it was about 3/4 pound lighter than standard 4” 500s but could be wrong

Practicality would much rather have a 460 but if I stumped upon a Ross 500 for the right price I’d have to get it so it could live next to Unintended Consequences

I can't see the pic, but since you mentioned it, I have a 686-3 Plus incoming. Looking forward to getting it dirty.
What draws you to that particular model?

I ask because the 357 is a gun I’ve always wanted to buy but never have. I have a hard time deciding between manufacturers, let alone model and bbl length! I’ve been tempted by the Kimber, the Python and a number of Smiths.

Was just recently tempted by a number of online Python blem drops by my local megastore, but was still a lot of scratch for something I couldn’t lay eyes on.

But anyway, the 7 and 8 shot 3” S&W models kind of have my eye again. Dunno if those 627’s are noticeably fat to carry with the 8 rd wheel.
