Carothers and Guns

I had this same internal debate and ended up purchasing a high quality security safe instead of a fire-safe. It's primarily keeping unwanted hands out and theft that I'm concerned about and a security safe accomplishes that for me. There isn't anything inside for me that isn't relatively easy to replace with an insurance payout in the case of a fire, but that may be different for you. I also plan to move sometime in the next 5-8 years so I didn't want to have to move a gun safe. My security safe only weighs around 120 lbs so it's easy enough to move. I also saved several thousand dollars that I could spend on something more fun than a fire safe :) Obviously you decide what's important to you, I just wanted to share some food for thought in case any of these same things apply to you. Good luck!
This is definitely the road I'm leaning towards. I won't be storing any heirlooms.

Looking into gun safes. I'm not interested in liberty, they're a total no- go for me.

I'm reading up on all the burglary/security ratings and the 3rd party tested fire ratings.

I can probably swing around $4k-$6k.

I'm actually leaning towards a cheaper safe and an larger insurance policy.

IMO: safe is the pinnical buy-once, cry-once item. At least for me, I dropped the money on a safe for things that insurance couldn't replace (documents, heirlooms, and such). I just so happen to own dangerous tools that conspicously look like guns and fit best in a safe designed for firearms.:)

After 10 years I have been really happy with my American Security BF safe. Too f-ing heavy. But security-for-dollar, I don't know of a better fire/security safe from a company that produces actual bank vaults.

I was actually looking into the amsec safes a bit. Seemed like a good option when going that route.

Revolvers are cool.

I've always been on the lookout for an Automag IV in 10mm Win Mag. I have an Automag III in 9mm Win Mag, but mine is an AMT (Arcadia Machine Tool), not an IAI (Irwindale Arms Corp). I had a .380 Backup made by IAI a long while back...

Maybe that’s the reason why I still don’t have it. A lot of models, very different prices. Another reason is i don’t want reload more calibers-)))

Since you all landed on CPK knives, I trust your opinions. I’m looking for a 1-6x or 1-8x optic to top a 16” BCM AR-15. I’m trying to stay under 1K. Hopefully I can find something rugged and reliable in that price range. Any recommendations? Much appreciated!

Vortex Razor HD Gen-II E 1x6 is absolutely stellar for the price. I think the street price without a mount is around $1,400 new, but IMO the glass always outprices the gun. But if you find one used, their "VIP warranty" is fully transferrable. The only knock I have against it is that it's heavy.

I've really liked my primary arms 1-10 with their illuminated acss reticle. Glass is nice for the price.
