Carothers and Guns

Since you all landed on CPK knives, I trust your opinions. I’m looking for a 1-6x or 1-8x optic to top a 16” BCM AR-15. I’m trying to stay under 1K. Hopefully I can find something rugged and reliable in that price range. Any recommendations? Much appreciated!

I just recently purchased a Primary Arms SLx 1-6x24 SFP Rifle Scope (Gen IV - Illuminated) and while it’s a little bulkier and heavier than I thought it would be, I’m pretty happy with the clarity of the glass and crispness of the dot. I’ve never owned anything from PA but the reviews are pretty damn good and at the price point it’s perfect to try out a LVPO for the first time.

I have a PLXC 1-8. It’s on a 308, so haven’t shot it as much as my AR optics, but seems like a good optic. That’s my first and only PA product (and outside of Knifevice’s price parameter).

The ACSS is a cool reticle, but I think I’m partial to a good ol crosshair/dot. :)

Oh for sure, me too! This one is close enough and the illuminated dot should do a good job of just allowing me to focus on that vs the other reticle markings, it’s on a hog hunting gun so most of the shots are going to be up close anyways, BUT, I’ve learned my lesson using just a standard red dot/Eotech and the magnification will come in handy for shot placement when the hogs are standing still or grouped up in the swampy, thick brush. Amazing how they blend in and can just look like a shadow.

9mm "dive" ammo; should the need arise 😆

I just went shooting today.

EMCEE EMCEE I shot my buddy's p320 xten. That thing has significantly less recoil than my xdm elite 5.25.
Right on bud. It’s the only 10mm I’ve shot so not much to compare to. I was very pleasantly surprised though.

Even with Buffalo Bore and Underwood 220 gen, it’s manageable, if not comfortable. Buffalo Bore did misfeed multiple times though. If since switched to UW 200 gen hard cast for the woods and mainstream 180 gen fmj for target. Which ammo did you use and what are your thoughts ?

The Alaskans who like carrying 10mm in brown bear territory, have mentioned that the 220gr for whatever reason, is iffy in a lot of pistols, and tends to result in malfunctions. The 200gr hard cast seems to not have the same issues.

I’m still surprised the lack of aftermarket parts for the Xten still considering how the 320 blew up

DPM makes an overpowered recoil spring for them but they’re $100, surprised Galloway or NDZ or Wolff….someone else hasn’t came out with recoil for them yet

I think a lot of feeding issues with ass kicker loads is the frame flexing, slide hitting the vertical impact surface too hard, or shooter induced from recoil. Would think having a couple extra LBs of tension would help

So far the only ammo I’ve tried in mine it didn’t truly care for was S&B 180gr HPs….it would have a lot of failure to feeds with a full mag

Btw. Sorry for off topic, but stuck in research with 300 blk suppressor. Looking light (Ti) and reliable, maybe modular, multi caliber (9mm as well). Thanks, appreciate!
I have the Silencerco Omega 300 and love it. I'm guessing their Scythe Ti is basically the same can, but a lot lighter. Not rated for repeated rapid fire though (no Ti is).

Not entirely. Q Trash Panda/Thunder Chicken, CGS Helios QD, Huxwrx Flow762Ti, Spectre Cat, Rugged Razor Ti, are all FA rated regardless of barrel length and there’s other options as well.

There are a lot of Ti cans out there that most definitely are not, just made to be light.

As a dedicated 300blk can the Scythe wouldn’t be a bad option for light weight but the Omega is a pretty great value now without the ASR, cerakote cooks though if ran hard but oh well kinda thing, it can always be recoated
The DPM recoil spring assemblies are worth every penny. I have one for my Gen 5 20mos and G40mos.
Very well made
I may have to try one then….

Concerning lack of aftermarket parts, I wonder if the videos circulating concerning Fred issues have discouraged the market ? I know I had watched a YouTube video where a guy was having trouble getting Buffalo Bore 220 grn to feed consistently.

Being an Sig fan and stubborn, I ran out and grabbed a couple boxes. Buffalo Bore is reputable. That said, the Underwood has been much more consistent. I need to put more rounds of each through it ti get a far comparison.

Also, the 6 mags I have won’t take all 15 and feed without jamming. Of course, that may be due to the new state 10 round restrictions.😉 Dumb !

I recently bought an annual range membership. Should be much easier to get her dialed in now, rather than weekend trips to the woods. I’ll keep trying both bullets and look into the DPM recoil spring. Thanks for the info.

Good to know. I’ll check it out . Appreciate the feedback from both if you !

We were just using 180gr fmj. No problems with cycling.

I'd say the sig had roughly 20% less recoil. I'll have my buddy try some of the 200 and 220gr hardcasts

Anyone have an AR10 that they like? Been trying to research what I want but thought would get opinions here.

Really just considering a Palmetto Sabre since they seem to get a lot of good reviews on YouTube. Or maybe a Ruger SFAR?

I have a POF P308 edge that I love. It's piston driven. I'm not sure that they're still making this model though.

The SFAR had a lot of reliability issues at first due to gas block problems. Supposedly that's all fixed now. Even if it's not, Ruger customer service is top notch and they'll get you taken care of.

What are you looking to do with the rifle? Hunt? Long range? Tactical purposes? Do all?

I’ve had a Gen 3 POF (20”) and a LWRC REPR (20”), really liked them both (POF was ammo picky) but I ended up selling them cause while they were bad ass to look at, things weighed 16lbs scoped out and was really just a pain to move around and enjoy

Not an AR but I have a Tavor 7 and so far it’s been my “IT” 308, 16” barrel and basically the same size as a PS90 or SP5 SBR. I love short and compact and damn is it that. Not the lightest option but compact…..definitely
