Hey Gus, I currently have the PL-2 mini version in my Amazon's list pondering about ordering it or not for my CZ 75 P-01 but I didn't know that the fuller size version would suit a tactical shotty! Thanks for posting this :) Once I pick up my Supernova next week, I will look into this OLight model if it should fit the picatinny rail which comes with Nordic component's magazine extension tube clamp.

May I ask what sling brand are you using?

Hey Mat,
I’ve had that sling for a while, I’m not sure, but I think it’s a Remington brand that I picked up at Walmart. I really like the PL-2 so far. It slid right on my picatinny rail, it’s easy to activate, and pretty bright at 1200 lumens. I got the regular one during flash sale at Olightstore.com and ordered a couple of rechargeable Olight CR123A batteries from batteryjunction.com.

Thanks Gus. Wowzer, 1200 lumens is a lot but better to blind them than blast them off their feet unless really necessary :D I think that I'll be going with a Magpul MS1 Sling but have to decide if I wanted it unpadded or padded, in that order of preference :)

I have the original MagPul sling, I believe it’s the MS1. It’s very well made and adjusts very easily, only complaint is that the slides start to twist occasionally kinda jamming it up but it’s nothing a decent tug doesn’t fix.
For me it’s just not the right sling, I find that it isn’t wide enough for comfortable carry of my rifle over time. You may be in better shape, more muscular, so it may not bother you as much as my old injured shoulders get dug into by it.
They make good stuff and if I remember correctly the newer MS4 is a touch wider.
Just my unsolicited.02, I hope that you enjoy whichever one that you get.
If you haven’t already checked them out, Vickers and BlueForce Gear make very nice slings.

Thanks 1AA1, I went ahead with ordering a BlueForce padded sling instead :)

Late to the party, but the BFG VCAS is definitely my favorite sling, due to the ease of using the quick adjuster AND the fact that its design doesn't leave loose dangling loops that can get caught on brush or your other gear. I've got a bunch of them.

Padded vs unpadded is an individual thing.

Both are adjusted for proper length first, then you can use the quick adjuster to easily tighten or loosen the sling very quickly.

The unpadded has a greater range of quick adjustment, due to the end of the pad limiting the range with the padded version (i.e. you can snug up the unpadded version further than the padded version, when both are adjusted to the same initial length).

As for comfort, that depends on the weight of the firearm, the duration you're going to be carrying it, what you're wearing, and your personal tolerance to the pressure on your shoulder.

For most folks, the padded will be more comfortable for longer, especially when you're wearing lighter clothing. The thicker, the clothing under the strap, the less need for the padding, as the material under the sling will help dissipate the pressure.

My new handgun, the CZ 75 P-01. Lots of dry firing so far (with snap caps of course!) and practicing with magazine swaps, racking the slide, decocker "safety", yada, yada... Was waiting to receive my OLight PL2 Mini before I took some pics. A couple of immediate dislikes:

- I don't like the trigger radius so the emulation of the original CZ 85 trigger will be ordered from CGW.
- Not a big fan of these very grippy plastic grips, simply because of the excessive palm swells which is n to a great fit for me, plus the Phillip screws which just doesn't look right to me on pistol grips. I'm going with Torx hardware again from CGW to mate with micarta/G10(?) grips I have ordered from LOK. I went with LOK versus VZ because LOK had a black and OD green which I think will look awesome. Nothing from VZ tickled my tastes!

Anywho, pics or didn't happen:

In closing: person can go nutz about tricking out this CZ but then if I wanted to spend all that dough, I'd just buy a Sig north of $1100! But yeah, one can otherwise easily sink another $500-$600 into these CZs adding better sights (factory ones are not horrible and quite functional for a home handgun), lightening up the DA/SA and the decocker action. The only other thing which I will be looking for will be a nice leather holster (OWB) because I hate Kydex scratches on this type of finish which would drive me nuts!

I don't currently CCW as it's still very hard to get a CCW here in the densely populated San Diego county, although I've heard things are getting a bit more relaxed but I still have neither the need or the desire. If/when I eventually move up north near the infamous Humboldt county, I'd most likely CCW a S&W revolver in .357 anyway so this will be a fun handgun for range and crap like that to hone my meh skills. Tis all :)

Nice setup Mat. Looks like it’ll make a good home defense gun.:)

Thanks Gus :)

The Sig 9mm (P226) which I used to have was my SIL’s service weapon which I ended up transferring back to my brother. My 84B Cheetah in .380 and the Bobcat in .25 are very sweet shooting old school pistols but 9mm is what I’d prefer if the hope-never-happens, happens. No but seriously, should be a fun one to shoot and to plink with either indoor ranges or up north :)

CZ-75 is a solid choice, a great and reliable sidearm. I could never get along with the trigger however. I have carried and shot in competition Smith and Wesson M&P' s for many years now.

CGW offers two upgrade kits for both self-defense and also another for competition trigger/hammer/decocker improvements none of which are really any concern of mine. These kits + outside gunsmithing for a noob like me will cost in the $200-$400 range with parts and labor. I just don't want to shoot this with the stick trigger because I know that I will not like the slap back as I can already feel it when dry firing so the old-school style trigger ($40ish + labor) ought to help. The improvements regarding less required pressure for DA/SA while very nice, are really not something that would or should concern my purposes. The most crucial factor for me was reliability which these CZs are so famous for. I've already ordered an extra mag for it because I don't want the mag which I use for dry fire practices and drill anywhere near my live mags

Here is why I LUV CPK because once you pay for it, by and large there's no more adding of this extra and the adding of that extra to bleed me out like a thousand paper cuts :D

Congrats Mat:thumbsup: DA/SA Fan I see

Yessir, but I don't know if I'm totally in the bag for DA/SA. However my 1st handgun was the Beretta 84B (Cheetah?) which I shoot relatively well and my thumb action (right-handed) is used to operating its safety by muscle memory. The full size 92/M9 varieties felt a bit too unwieldy for me, so I went with this but as had said, this will not be a CCW handgun. If /when I ever have to get a CCW, it'll most likely be a DA S&W .357, probably a the mid size J-frame 60 Pro model :)

Nothing wrong with the striker-fire system and in fact lots of benefits to it as a nightstand weapon, specially for the more novice. I'd seen some totally tricked out G19 models which I really liked but here in Cali, the Gen 3 is the latest approved model on our DOJ's roster and the all tricked out one I liked was about $1100 in a G17-Gen 3!

Cali's DOJ has to approve individual models (and in this case, merely more recent iterations of the same model) of OEM firearms? Wow...

Just FYI: CA firearm laws max out at 10+1 magazine capacity for whatever type of firearm. Most handgun manufacturers no longer bother to produce versions compatible with some of the more ammo/gun restrictive states. But yes, the CA DOJ does have a roster which they roll out on Jan 1st of every year which expires on 12/31 of the same year.

Most bigger online sellers like Buds have a link to this site to check and verify if the purchase is Cali legal or have certain items clearly marked as CA compatible (or MA, or CT, or...). Always best to check and verify because if incompatible the designed receiving FFL will have to ship back to the seller and most purchases are subject to like a 20% re-stocking fee due to the purchaser' error.

I knew about CA (and a few other states) with 10-rd restrictions, but thought it was just a restriction on higher capacity magazines.

I hadn't heard about CA's DOJ needing to individually approve specific models (and in this case, merely newer generations of the exact same model) of firearm.

The gen4 Glocks have been out for years at this point (and even the G5 has been out for a bit now), which means they're really going slow at adding anything to the list. It's not as if the G4/5 Glocks suddenly added full auto to the features or anything. It's mostly small changes (many of them cosmetic, like finger grooves vs no finger grooves etc.).
