Carothers and Guns

1AbominAble1 1AbominAble1 - thanks for the details! Weight is really a concern for me but I also have been researching the Q Erector and I am likely going to order it this week from Silencer Shop. They just make it too easy.

Being serviceable was a big priority for me and the Erector is not only totally serviceable you can assemble it in shorter lengths with less suppression for various shooting scenarios. It's also only 2.4 ounces with all pieces assembled. One of my local dealers has it priced at $399 through Silencer Shop, so it's hard to beat.

Phill50 Phill50 - My understanding from watching video's is that in pistols subsonic doesn't make a difference, so you are confirming that. Likely because in a shorter barrel it all stays subsonic. Just curious, how long was your wait? I've been hearing some reports of as little as 30 days but the average still seems to be out around 200.

Here's a pretty decent overview of the Erector:

Thanks for the advice guys

From everything that I’ve read and the vids that I’ve watched I think that you’ll really enjoy that Q Erector. if I was shopping now I’d really be considering that one too because Kevin B sure knows how to make a silencer.

I was checking the wait times on ATF tracker last month and they still had it around a year. I hope it’s changed, if so, I’ll be getting a 5.56 can.

We setup a family trust for the suppressors and got three stamps back in 60 days. That was the fastest turnaround time to date at the gun store were we bought them at. A couple people at the shop Have been waiting a year or so.
We used a Silencer Shop kiosk to process the paperwork.

Put a 300 Blackout upper tonight on a AR and tried that for the first time with a can. It was fun and a very different shooting experience.
But to be honest I’m not 100% sold on the whole suppressor shooting and have very limited experience with the legal good stuff they have out now. All the parts really start adding up to a lot of money to get multiple setups.

Wow that's fast, back when I set up my trust it took almost a year. I haven't hunted or shot long guns without a suppressor in years.

The return process for paperwork is so random I think it depends on who gets it to process and how far behind that person is. From what I read it used to be the agents running them were organized by state and I guess that's no longer the case so it's a crap shoot.

The only dealer that has a Kiosk around here is $145 more for the same suppressor, I am going to call them tomorrow and ask what they charge to use it if I don't use them for the transfer, otherwise I'm likely going to do the fingerprint kit.

I debated having a trust vs individual and may go with a trust just so I can leave it for my daughter, I'll probably use their $24.95 Quick Trust service for one suppressor.

Ya, the next thing I want to try is suppressors on the hunting guns.

I use a 44 mag rifle in our limited zone with a 45 caliber can and it has made hunting so much more enjoyable.
It has made taking the kids a lot nicer too, I hate worrying about hurting their hearing and it’s hard to get muffs on the kids in the few moments you get to take a shot. Silenced 44 mag isn’t much worse than a high powered pellet gun.

No rhyme or reason and just the luck of the draw is my understanding too.

Picked up a AAC HALCYON suppressor a couple weeks ago. Used it on a Ruger 22/45 light and it worked better than I thought it would. The one thing I did learn about this setup is there is no need for subsonic ammo. Any ammo will work through this setup and stay subsonic.

5" is typically the max for a 22 pistol to run high velocity and it stay subsonic; altitude, humidity, temperature can affect that obviously. My Buckmark is 5.5" and some high velocity will stay subsonic, other ammo is inconsistent and some will pop and others won't. To be safe, I typically just run CCI Standard Velocity in everything and never had an issue.

60 days? And you only had 1 stamp in process? Man that's unreal. Last stamp of mine was weird, basically sat on an examiners desk and stayed there. Trust with 1 RP and it took almost 19 months. In the mean time I had 2 file SBRs (1 of those even took 60 days) and 2 form 4s get processed before that one, and sent off months later than the 19 monther.

We had 3 stamps come back in 60 days, all at the same time. Just luck I guess next time it will probably take a couple years.

Damn, good for you guys. Even back in the good ol days of pre 41f the shortest my trust got approved was 2.5 months and took 3 weeks to mail back to me. I wish we could say the wait times are getting shorter but it's all just a crap shoot.
