Carothers and Guns

@Wood5045

I use this stuff on the grips of my Glocks:

Not my photo, (it's a buddy's), but it gives you an idea. I use mine on the side panels, as opposed to the front strap. Works well and is just the right aggression.

Don’t take this as a criticism, but it is mind boggling to me that people like the 26. It is the only handgun I have ever fired that I am sure I could never get used to. Maybe I just lack imagination lol

What I like about the 26, is that it takes all the standard double stack mags. There are adapters that you can slide on the 15 and 17rd mags.

Oh I love the idea of it. I meant the experience of shooting it. I wanted to like it. REALLY wanted to. Tried the 42 as well; just couldn’t get used to the way they felt (but particularly the 26).

I don't take it personally. Everyone has different experiences and needs when it comes to something as personal as a carry gun.

I first bought a 26 in 1995 as an ankle gun (backup) to my primary on the job. When I found that I shot pretty much the same scores at our quarterly qualifications with it, (as compared with my personal and issued Glock 19s), I started to carry it more and more often as a primary, as well as off-duty.

It's the only handgun I have two of. That's how much I like it. And it's the one I would never part with.

That said, it's not for everyone and I'm perfectly okay with that. For me, it does everything I want it to do, and does it well.

The Glock 26 is also not for me. I think it's the pinnacle of 90's concealed-carry and backup guns, but the 90's philosophy toward making compact guns was to take a full-size gun and then cut off a chunk of the barrel and slide and a chunk of the grip, leaving the gun the same in every other dimension. The G26 is the top dog of that pile, but the Sig P224 also shows how absurd that whole idea was.

Of course, then Sig released the P365 and made up for it.

Sorry, I’m realizing that I’ve derailed the thread and I hate it when guys do that (“it appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds”) If you’re up for someone chatting via message Blues Blues just let me know.

I'm kind of pushed for time. I have to get a workout in, and then head to town. Anyway, it's really not something that needs further addressing. I can point to a couple hundred current and former LEOs on another site I frequent that feel the same way I do, having carried the gun on and off the job, undercover, during raids, etc etc.

And I could point to just as many who prefer whatever they prefer. It's all good. I know what I would carry into combat or simply for concealed carry, and they get to make the same choices.

Having choices is good. Hopefully it stays that way. And with that, I'm out. No disrespect, just short on available time.

Not a problem. I too am a “professional shooter.” Knowing what you have said of your career I simply wanted to hear more details on your choice of back up weapon. It wasn’t an invitation to defend your choice, it was more an invitation to convince me to try the 26 again. I seek shared knowledge; not meaningless debate. I’m a firm believer in “different strokes for different folks,” but I’m much more interested in talking to the guys who carry something different than I do. Blues Blues I won’t talk to you about the 19 because that’s happily my primary pistol. madcap_magician madcap_magician and I don’t need to talk deep concealment because we made the same choice in the P365.

I’m sorry guys; just wanted to clear the air since it wouldn’t be done via message. I won’t post again.

We are definitely in the prime era of choice when it comes to guns and knives. Never had so many choices before!

I love the G21sf I guess because I have kinda short trigger fingers and I'm a .45ACP guy. My finger tips side to side and pointing straight looks more like a spear tip. I don't feel the need for a backup gun but if I did, I would look at the G30 or G36.

I have had a great many Glocks over the years. I've only kept one, which served as my duty gun when I worked for my local Sheriff's office. They are fine guns that get the job done but I don't find anything particularly interesting or sexy about them.

When I was a recruit, I had to pick my sidearm - interestingly at the time, I actually had a choice between the Sig P220 and the Glock 22. The Sheriff's Office was transitioning from the P220 to the 22 but they still offered the Sig as an option. I remember going to the gun store to get a feel for the two of them - the Sig fit in my hand like it was made for it, where the Glock felt clumsy and awkward. Since there was a $350 difference between the two, I reluctantly chose the Glock.

In hindsight, I am happy that I did. All of my training has been on the Glock platform and I can pick up any Glock and shoot it quite well - just so long as it hasn't been significantly altered in any way.

I remain a Sig guy though - at least where autos are concerned.

I on the other hand think there is something sexy about the plain looking Glock. I love the simple design that works great with no extra safeties and stuff that we have to worry about. All I have to do is grab her and pull the trigger. I also feel safe wearing my Glock in a shoulder harness.
Simplicity is sexy. I'll take a couple of new photos in a bit and put one up here.

Credit to Gaston and as a non-gun guy, thinking outside the box. If you've ever armorer-level/completely stripped down every single part in a Glock, it's pretty amazing how the design is engineered with a bare minimum of parts.

Eg. A P320 has waaayyy more parts (and yet, somehow, the one thing they eliminated, i.e. the trigger safety, was the thing that resulted in a recall/redesign).

Yep, I usually strip down my G21sf every year even if I haven't fired her.
