Carothers and Guns

Ok thanks, that means mine wasn’t made long before I got it. Excellent guns all the way around!
Here is one I picked up about 4 years ago - serial number in the 22 thousands. I swapped out the front sight and the grips. I like a relatively thin Dawson fiber front sight. Slim grips index better IMO; and I have XL hands. It was a tack driver in my bench testing!

Very cool K Knibes , I was thinking of going with the XR orange front sight. I’d love another EB especially that EVO they have posted but I’ve been thinking of getting a Dan Wesson (ECP in 9mm), I had a VBob at one point but sold it. Great choice with the TeroTuf on the DEK!
Thanks! The XR Orange front sight looks like a good option. My Ed Browns are rarely loaded if you know what I mean; so the sight choice is square range oriented. A bonus there is If I had to replace a pair of night sights on every pistol I have all at once that would be enough money for some really nice guns haha.

I feel pulled in too many directions as far as 9mm 1911 / 2011s (etc). Red dot options, single vs double stack, steel vs aluminum vs plastic, blued vs "tactical." The SFX9 has my attention though.

Yikes. A 20 round box of Federal 9mm 147gr HST was $35 at Cabela's. I need some to test on my P365 Spectre Comp and I couldn't find it anywhere. I haven't bought JHP in several years and I remember it being $20 a box.
Yeah, it seems like the HST has jumped in price lately. I picked up a couple boxes of Fed Punch 124gr recently, and they were $20 box.

Arms Unlimited has 500rd cases of RA9T (Winchester Ranger-T 147gr) for $289. That's ~$0.58/rd. HST and Gold Dot have been ~$0.80/rd by the case.

Basically the cheapest I've seen any of the premium 147gr 9mm JHPs (Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger-T).

*** And Ranger-T has been unobtainium for the past few years. Know of a couple of LE departments that switched to something else because even they couldn't get their orders. What production there is, is usually reserved for LE or .gov contracts, but they haven't even kept production on par for that.

Winchester generally doesn't like their licensed retailers/distributors selling their Ranger line to civilians (and in the past, would threaten to revoke distribution to retailers who they confirmed were selling to civilians. No laws restricting a civilian purchasing, possessing or carrying/using it. Just the manufacturers preference).

I bought quite a bit of 147 gr HST standard a few years back, and some 124+ P. Should last me for years as long as I only fire off the carry ammo every now and again, and stick to ball ammo for training.

During the Covid mania, my LGS had stacks of Ranger-T in .40 S&W for dirt cheap. I don't shoot .40 much anymore, but it's kinda nice to know I've got a healthy supply of it just in case.

It was nice to buy and sock away the ammo when prices and shipping were low a few years ago. I did the same with magazines. Not excessive, but enough to never need to buy more under normal circumstances.
