Carothers and Guns

Picked up a new deer rifle :) . Waiting for an optic to arrive, but pleasantly surprised with how nicely this Tavor 7 shoots after testing it this weekend. Will also have a can eventually, and still be shorter OAL than a 16” AR platform.

Interested to know what kind of groups you see with match ammo. Recently saw someone report ~1MOA with 5-shot groups of 168gr FGMM (seems to do better with that, than 175gr FGMM. Don't know why these manufacturers like IMI and FN picked a 1:12 twist vs 1:10).

That’s cool. Only post I saw shooting that tight was with hand loads. The accuracy aspect had me on the fence for a while (that and she’s a bit chunky). Seems to be a 1.5 MOA gun for most folks shooting the right load though, so good enough for what it is and my intended use.

My understanding on the 1:12 twist is it’s common for rifles designed around the 7.62 x 51 NATO round for whatever reason. But since IWI mentioned wanting to get this into the 1 MOA range, I don’t understand that twist choice either.

I bought a selection of ammo to test. Reports I read indicate it like the lighter ammo, so have a variety of 147-150 gr to try.

I'm going to go with, "What is an Entertaining Dance?" for $500, Alex.
Taken ladies to the range for their first time before. Sure enough, the ones who were well-endowed, would invariably wear low cut tops (despite me telling them beforehand, to make sure not to wear a low cut top 😅).

I'd then have to explain (for the 2nd time, to everyone after the 1st gal) the potential for hot brass to land somewhere unintended, and that no one wants a person dancing and flailing around with a loaded firearm in hand, when the brass burns them.

Didn't have a t-shirt to offer the first one, so we ended up tying her scarf to cover her cleavage, like a bib. She admitted afterwards, that she did indeed, feel brass hit her cleavage more than once, and thanked me for the 'protector'.

Made sure after the 1st newb, to not only tell any other ladies beforehand, but also to bring a clean, spare t-shirt to the range, for each one, in case they didn't pay attention.

I have a IWI X95 that I picked up when they came out like 7 years ago. It is still sitting in a mylar bag unfired.

Edit - here is a 25 creed I need to shoot (Bighorn action, PVA barrel)

I’m old. The first thing I thought is: what happens with an errant hot ejected casing?
This happened with my wife on one of our dates early in our relationship. I brought her shooting, and brought my Beretta M9 with her in mind. She liked shooting but got bored of it after about 150 rounds or so, and wanted to move up to a more serious caliber. Only other gun I brought was my Mark XIX Desert Eagle in .44 Mag that I just got at the time and wanted to test.

She gave it a try and let’s just say an errant shell found its way down her shirt and left a nice 2 week reminder of our date. I must say that she did great shooting it, no FTF’s or FTE’s. She was a beginner at the time but handled recoil like she’d been shooting her whole life. Strong grip and proper stance came naturally to her. I knew she was the one.
