Case/Bose 2011 Collaboration

It could just be the lighting, and maybe someone who was at Blade and got to inspect the prototypes in person could set me straight, but the blades on the Case prototype don't even hold a candle to the blades on the Bose prototype. The swedges look too shallow, the long pull looks too short, the crescent nick looks too wide, and the points of the blade appear too dull.
The past collaborations looked allot better to me when compared to the reference knife. Maybe they are working that out?

I've handled one of the prototypes and was impressed with it. It probably wouldn't be prudent to compare a Case collab. with one of Tony's hand made knives because you know what they say, "Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and Case Collaborations". ;)

I need to save up my pennies for one of the ebony version. Those Case collabs are really something, I've been looking forward to this one. I lost my ebony Tribal Spear, and I'm still sick about it. That was my very favorite knife.

Well Kerry, if you were impressed I'm sure I would be as well.
I wouldn't expect them to be truly comparable, but it just seamed like they sure could look "crisper", if you know what I mean.
Probably not the best pic of the knives taken at Blade (not complaining at all, I took some the year before of the Tribal Spear that were worse:o), I'll just have to wait until they get released to get a better look.

Holy crap, you got me worried about mine now, and it's at home safely tucked away.

Would like to pick up a bone handled version of the 2011 collaboration.

Yeah, that was quite a loss. Probably the worst in all my years of collecting. I'd been carrying the Tribal Spear daily for around 10 months, and enjoyed the heck out of it. I was experimenting with a new fannypack thingy (yes, I'm a dork). It was cool, kind of like a Batman utility kit, with little pouches all around on a nice web belt. I had the knife in one of the pouches, was out and about, and when I got home, that particular pouch was no longer on the belt. It was attached with snap loops, and I guess it just snapped off. I'm not sure exactly where, but I think it might have been in the mall, I was there with my wife and son for a while, and that was where I did most of my moving around.

Somebody got themselves a real doozy of a "floor score" that day. I just hope that whomever found it realized what a nice knife they had found, and is carrying around and enjoying it.

And I don't plan on carrying any of my knives anywhere except in my pants pockets ever again. That was a lesson hard-learned.

I've been rotating an Ebony Tribal Spear colab for about a year now and would be really upset losing it. Nicest production folder I have and am going to have a custom done with some ebony later this year.
Maybe the lucky dog who found Moonwilsons will recognize and appreciate the quality.
It could always be worse and have been the real thing from TB.

Take Care,

Mark

Stu, i agree that the blade tips in the Prototype pic. are rounded off rather than being ground all the way to the very tip.
It takes careful edge grinding (sanding) to create an even point so perhaps with a prototype they don't take the extra time that is required. I hope when making the Collabs the care is taken to put a fine sharp point on the blades.
The ability to easily puncture something is important, as is having the edge shaving sharp all the way to the very tip.
It's details like this that help make a knife merit the cost.

Yesterday I got to view for the first time the soon to be released new Case Vault Case/Bose Sowbelleys. I liked all the ones I seen except the new watermelon bone. I can't believe they're finally doing one in stag/CV; wished I hadn't seen that!!

I was figuring 6.25".

That would be one big ol' slab o' pearl.

I have several CASE/BOSE collaboration knives and am well pleased. The pic of the projected new coffin jack has me very concerned. If that is what they are going to look like I will not be buying one. And the differences between the Tony Bose original and this prototype are subtle, but earth shattering nonetheless. No comparison. Still hoping for the best!

I think I already have passed judgement Tony. :D

Picking one up in Ebony, Stag (if I am lucky) and M.O.P. (Not sure which one will go to my dad, but he will get one of those and will have a huge smile on his face at Christmas.)

(So I guess I will be bringing 3 pouches to Blade next year. ;)

I've never been to a a knife factory but my guess is that the first few made of a new pattern ("Prototypes") are done to make sure that all of the tooling is set up correctly and that all the parts go together as they should. This stage is not intended to make a perfectly finished product. That comes when the production run begins.
Maybe someone who knows can comment on this ?
