Case Tony Bose Collabs pic and discussion thread.

Man yours is a lot better than the one I had for a day and sent back to the dealer. Can’t remember what all was wrong with it.

Out of the 4 I’ve had two have been perfect Trapper and dogleg. The cattle was unacceptable and the premium stockman has a spot on the bsckspring that has a little gap and isn’t flush. I’ve not sent it in I think I’m on Glenn’s waitlist to give it some love and fix the mared up bolster were I dropped it on a hard tile floor cause it was cold my hands weren’t working that well and when it went to half stop it flew out of my hand .

Overall they’re really good users with the bushing pivot I’ve not had any loosen on me yet. The 154cm body of the knife doesn’t scratch up easily and hides wear pretty decently. I love how they don’t swirl up the bolsters putting in and out slips and such. The satin on the blades is nicer than any other satin I’ve saw besides a hand rub. The steel is excellent strops great and holds an edge like you’d expect something in this price range with a better ht to

Well I decided today that I would send it back to the dealer as I honestly just don’t need a knife in this price range to do what I ask of a knife to do on a daily basis. So I got home and started to box it up and for the first time in right at 30 years of marriage my wife expressed a rather strong opinion on my knife buying. I was told that she is tired of hearing me talk about buying this knife only to change my mind after a couple days of talking myself into it. I have been “ instructed” to send it in to Case then put it in my pocket and “ shut up about whether or not you need it” So there you have it...I was wrong...again

It's a bummer for sure but you won't be sorry once it gets back home. You wife is a wise woman!

Been admiring the 1999 slim wharncliffe trapper for some time. I don't see them come up often so when one came across my radar Sunday at a decent price, I had to pull the trigger. Should be showing up tomorrow according it the tracking.

I've previously owned a regular sized Case Bose wharncliffe trapper but it didn't stick around long. I much prefer the slimmer version. Hoping it can join the Norfolk in the permanent section of my collection.

I'd forgotten about that one!
Thanks, I think.. Too many knives on my wish list!

One popped up a few weeks ago and I almost pulled the trigger on it, but I had just bought a 2000 millennium trapper and couldn't justify buying two trappers in a weeks time. When you get it, please post your thoughts and lots of pics to make me jealous. Thanks!

So here’s a question, you all think I’m ok carrying this Cattle Knife until Case reopens and will accept the warranty repair or should I make sure it’s still new in the box when I send it in? It’s killing me to not carry it after finally deciding that everyone is right and I should keep it.

Unless you plan to baton firewood with it, I think it is perfectly fine to carry and use until such time you decide to send it in to Case.

Their warranty is pretty generous and don't specify it needs to be LNIB.

I'll tolerate a little play as long as the action is good.

Love it....nice action, wharncliffe is punchable, crisp opening/closing. Tiny play on the clip when I push hard but I don't discern it in use.

I think it might be a keeper.

Really nice deep color & jigging on that one.

My 3 Lanny's (2 ebony, 1 Damascus) - were all flawless.
Bought them about 3-4 years ago.
One ebony and the Damascus are safe queens,
the other ebony is a "user" that I hate to use.

With regard to receiving them (or similarly priced knives),
I'll often ask the dealer to take it out of the box and wrapping
to eyeball it, and to check the walk and talk.

I like buying this type of knife from dealers whom I know
at least reasonably well.

How is the heat treat on the 154CM?

Geoff
I think tony had a post on here about it being cryoed but beyond that no specifics. In use I think it’s good and not their standard trash ht. Thought about sending one of mine out to get cuttested. Emailing them my yield something

I enjoyed the eye candy in this thread.

I like small-ish knives and the TB-case swayback Jack has been on my list for a long time. Seems like it’s universally loved. I wish they would make them again.

So other then the main blade play my only issue with my new cattle knife is how sharp the edges or the pulls are. Both of my thumb nails are so chewed up after a couple days of working with this knife that at this point I can’t open it.
Was going to see is perhaps Case could round over these edges when they have it to correct the blade play but I’m still waiting to hear back from them so the hell with it. It’s a working knife owned by a working redneck...I got this. View attachment 1332057

Probably partially due to covid-19 but also this time last year I sent my coffin jack in and it took two months to get it back .. in between sending it and receiving it back the collab for last year came out so I figured they were building bullnose trappers instead of working with warranty ... I sent a lbw in shortly after and had it back in three weeks. I've
learned to like the collaboration knives even with the minor flaws...the actions on the blades are truly custom quality and better in some cases but all three of my TB collabs have "issues" even though two have been worked on by case. The most common one in my experience is that the plunge grind on the blade(s) will vary between the mark and pile side leaving an edge that jumps up near the choil.

Sand paper and power tools? o_O Not sure that is the route I'd go my friend. If your gonna use a dremel maybe a soft wire disk wheel will net you better, less catastrophic results for gently softening those edges. ;)
