Case's new Rogers Jigged Walnut Bone

Nice photo OH, makes me excited about my 63090, due here today. Rick, I just measured my Humpback Stockman, after several times I'm pretty sure these old eyes and hands has got it to be 3 5/8".

Alan

I don't have either of the knives in question to measure, but many, many times a knife I have measures a 1/16 less than the listed length. I think they just don't worry about accuracy too much, an eighth or a sixteenth difference ain't much. And besides, they ARE hand made to a great degree, and a heavy buffing could take off an extra wee bit on the ends.

Dadpool, thanks for the testimonial. Are you willing to post a picture of your 090 (even though it's not Rogers jigged walnut bone)?

At the slightest provocation! ;)

As usual for my photos, it looks better in person.

I'll echo Dadpool's comments. A very nice pattern.

I always enjoy seeing these two, Railsplitter! Case's harvest orange is one of those colors that varies a lot between knives, at least in the ones I've seen, and I love your example.

Maybe someone else can measure theirs. Neither one of my measurements match a popular dealer's measurements. They list the Humpback at 3 5/8 and the 63090 at 3 3/8 but that's not what I'm getting.

Mine is 3 3/8" on the button.

What is the length of the clip blade? I really like it.

The clip blade on mine comes in at 2 1/4".

I think the bone jigging and color is quite similar to the better 1970's Case offerings and I also believe that Case will sell a lot of these if they widen the line - SO much better than all the "Easter Egg" colors of the last 20 years. Even the lightest ones were nice looking, some are darker on one side than the other, just like many 1970's Case I've seen.

 That Peanut is a knockout, Old Hunter!

Chalk me up as having mixed experiences with Case's jigged bone when buying knives sight unseen. I no longer buy them that way -- only with a picture of both sides of the actual knife. I've seen pocket worn red covers that look more like speckled pink, and many variations of their amber jigged bone aren't pleasing to my eye.

It sometimes takes me weeks of looking around to find a specific knife that I love, as was the case with the Stockman. Ditto this amber jigged bone Trapper, which took me a lot of hunting (please excuse the sheath; I don't have a newer photo):

It's excellent to hear -- and see! -- that the new Rogers jigged walnut bone is turning out to be good stuff. :)

I never should have read this thread. I had wanted to get an 090 stockman a while back but put it in my someday list. This one knocked me over the edge. I've got one on order now. This'll be my 29th stock knife - sheesh!

Rick that picture of the Harvest Orange just cost me money I really like it and I got's to have one. :D

Beauty of a knife, OH. I really how that bone turned out on your peanut. Combined with the pinstripes it gives a very classy effect.

Just received the Case 63090 Walnut Bone and it is one sweet knife. The F&F and the W&T are near perfect. It is on a par with all but customs. If the covers were truly upscale there would be no difference. Pull on the main clip is about 4-5 and 5-6 on the secondaries. Color is matched on the mark and pile side with feathering towards lighter as you go to the bolster. It's not as dramatic a difference as in my photo. That's just from the lighting and editing. Sunken joints and very classy. It will definitely enter my rotation, albeit with something a little more substantial. Buy it, you'll like it.
Will post a compare photo with the Humpback Stockman next.

Here it is with the Humpback Stockman. Oh BTW, be careful it doesn't like small spaces. Bit me bad jumping out of its box!

Alan

I'll have to take a couple pictures of mine when I get a chance. I got a 3 7/8 stockman and my scales are pretty far off. The walnut is a great color though. I've been carrying it since I got it, but I ordered a harvest orange sowbelly this morning so I think it may take a back seat soon....

Thanks Rick, maybe even nicer than the humpback just not as substantial.

Alan, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more pics buddy.

Anyone else have any pics?

Here ya go Brett. What do you think of modding the spey into a pen? I don't know if it's been discussed before, but I'm curious as to why Case only does their jigged bone in the center section and not end to end.

Alan

They jig the bone in large flat slabs. Then they are cut down to individual knife sizes. At that point they are jigged evenly all the way to the edges. It is the process of buffing and polishing the bone down to match the height of the bolsters that removes the jigging near the ends. Some slabs are a little thinner so less jigging has to be removed. Sometimes they are a little thicker so only the jigging in the middle survives (and the handles are overall a little thicker).
