Good to hear BigCountry! I was just thinking about you today... Congratulations too!

I'm glad to hear the knives are doing well too... I was really happy with the way they turned out and hearing that is even better!

BigCountry SWSK!

Hey guys!

Just got home from work. Funny, I forgot my phone at home today, I felt naked for a little bit, but got over it quick. Its a good feeling to know I'm not totally dependant on my phone!

Well, the FIL is back at his GF's house. I told him he needs to pick one and stick to it. Its not good for my son to expect grandpa to be here all the time and then he isn't, then he is....I stressed he needs to stop running back here everytime he fights with her, I stressed it very much, lol!

Hope it works!

I'm currently lookin at caping knife patterns to make for my dad. We have an antelope hunt in NV coming up last week of August, and would like to get one done for him. It would be nice to get a hunter set done, but don't know if that's gonna happen. I really should buy a bubble jig, grinding larger blades always gives me fits! I can grind a mini pretty easily though!

Anyways, time to do a shot or two! Cherry bombs!

Ps. Hey Big, glad you're ok! Let us know when you decide what knife your gonna buy the little one!

Anybody else down with some DFK small tools? I've seen some of those picks and pry bar chisels with the little divots milled into them. They are kinda where its at. I always like when he throws some crazy colors in there, but I can also get down with the plain metal look.

Just sayin'

Yeah, I've got a tool!

Morning squatchlings!

The wife is off work for the next 3 weeks until fall semester starts, ugh, hope it goes well and she doesn't get too bored! She gets a "little crabby" when she is bored with nothing to do...

Sounds great Xander , I'd like to see a caping knife you made! Just let me know if you need any ht help or anything! I bet 52100 or maybe an exotic steel would be good. 1084 of course...

The Bubble Jig sounds cool, I'd still like one. I think knowing the angle and setting it is cool...

On huge blades it is tough for anyone to hold an angle... a 3' katana being a great example. Hog out that bevel then file away!

Wally Hayes has a katana video that is the best, his two videos show this technique. He draw files then sands a knife to 2000 grit.. uses a leather pad to polish. VEry under rated stuff...

Small Tools - I have a few planned, hope to get a lineup going by Fall.... all Titanium! Maybe some stainless or D2 too.

Keychain Tools - Keychain Knives/tools - Altoids Tin/Survival Kit Knife - Bottle Opener Knife (TiBOK)

I consider some other projects too, dogtag tool, tritium lantern, more credit card knives... depends on feedback.

two words - draw filing

lmao!!!! OK that may be a bad idea, maybe buy her some flowers! Another mixer would be cool, how about a massive Hobart! :D

Id love a 20# hobart! We currently have 3 stand mixers, a white standard 6qt kitchen aid, a black deluxe 6qt kitchen aid and my grandmothers 60's vintage Sunbeam mix master which works flawlessly and replacement parts are still available! I love that mixer, it was my first and I have both sets of bowls for it, stainless and glass. Its cool because it uses multiple sizes of bowls and the head detaches to become a hand blender but it weighes 12#!!! Its all chrome too!

When I say bigger knives I really mean normal sized knives! Big compared to the minis I grind, lol!

I have a bar of D2 I might use, my dad has a custom hunter in D2 and I think the low maintenance would be better for him.

talking about post #29 photo sticky thread. Should I start a thread and take some votes?

The Prybars, Marlingspike and "Gnarly Wharnie!"

I consider some tools like that with a bit newer style, a poll would be cool! The divots look cool.

I highly encourage pics, threads, etc...

I need to fix our Kitchenaid, long story but it simply doesn't work. Do the points need to be installed in a particular fashion? I remember that pic you posted, you have some cool ones!

When I was a Baker I used to make about 30 full sheet trays of bread and rolls every day. We used a Hobart that must have weighed 1000 pounds... would hold about 150# easily. It was scary, looked safe but you didn't want to stick an arm in it! I once had it running slow and thought it would be OK to stick our scraper (lol it was a canoe oar) in it, it got caught in the paddle and snapped like a twig. I never did that again. :D

On the grinds you can do it! Remember if you aren't throwing stuff away you aren't pushing hard enough! lol Murray Carter mentioned that about forge welding... you have to be so close to the right temp that you are probably overheating them if every knife makes it.

D2 sounds great and I know where you can have it ht'd. :D Good call, low maintenance on the finish and sharpening.

Yeah, those big hobarts are crazy! I watched one of the lunch ladies get a bag of pancake mix ripped out of her hands in elementry school! It was a 30# bag, I don't know why she was loading while it was running, but it sure made a mess! It was a big one as well, maybe a 30 or 36 inch bowl. The next week there was a cage on it.

Yeah, I know I can do the grinds, I just don't have much D2! Its gonna be slow at work today, so I think I'll work up a pattern. The big question is a guard or no guard!

Big, that's Plan A! Bringing the Rem700 in .30-'06 just in case. Up to and including 250 yards is in pistol range for that hand cannon!

Well so much for my slow easy day, massive blackouts. 2 today so far, 35,000 homes and businesses so far. Hope there aren't anymore. Policy is we cannot close the store, but have to process all payments manually. I try to limit it to cash and check only, but
sometimes that doesn't work.

Oh, Daniel what exactly is wrong with your mixer? I've fiddled with a few several times, not a whole lot to go wrong, just a variable speed motor and planetary gear.

Thanks BigCountry! You really came up with a great idea for a knife, I'm happy to be a part of it.

Xander - outages that sucks! that was one of the reasons I moved from the Caribbean, no fun when you have shampoo in your hair! ...here it is really bad, back in my canyon the power went out once for two weeks, it was legendary. They have new power ran in from the highway finally but it still goes out a lot. I feel for you!

Mixer - When we got it I lived in St.Thomas, it had been shipped upside down and the oil had ran out. I think I took it apart to add more oil and when I put it together it didn't work. I think I pulled the points trying to figure out how to take it apart and that may be the problem. (how they were re-installed) It seems super simple so it baffles me why it won't run.

I think that is correct, it has probably been 9 years...

Just in from sanding like a maniac! The MCAM woods knife is looking killer.

By points, you mean brushes that ride against the stator on the outside of the coil?

Haven't had any more outages today, thankfully. Having to reboot and restore the server everytime, then manually enter in any charges into the system is a pain in the butt. Not to mention the AC quitting every time.

My bad, I meant brushes! lol points

Good on the power, I have done the manual cc thing many times. In the VI I managed several jewelry kiosks and had to manually do everything then punch it in the machine after work. Took hours...

Yes the brushes are directional, they are left and right as well as top and bottom. They should have a chamfered edge on them. Min length is 5/16" iirc, looking from the back, the motor turns clockwise. The right one should have the chamfered edge leading into the rotation so it will be on top, the left one will have the chamfered edge on bottom. Its ok to clean the brush carriers with solvent and the brush channels as well, but try not to spray solvent directly into the armature.

Dude... you're my hero! I'm trying this tomorrow! thanks so much, that makes sense! I had matched the edges so I bet that is it!
