Bobby, I've seen those lever axes before. Interesting design. The videos I have seen seem to really make it look easy. But that's usually how I like my wood chopping, done by someone else lol!

Got more gun tools on the way, rented a reamer and some guages, gonna change the chamber in the barrel. Lengthen the free bore and change the leade angle to help keep pressures down and allow me to run hotter loads and heavier bullets. Should be just what's needed to get out to 800 yards on an 8" kill zone (basically just under 1 MOA).

Been a long time since I have built a brand new gun from scratch, I've typically rebuilt older guns. Having fun with this project for sure!

Evan and Wayne, have a great week off!

Xander that sounds cool, is the reamer a boring machine of sorts or a really huge chucking reamer? Maybe we can collab on a shoot and cut... :D AR15/Framlock

I had a great day in the shop and sat down on my couch at 3:30 for a rest after a lot of hand sanding... lol fell asleep sitting there until now! I have been tired but dang!

I was going to post tanto pics but the lighting was battling me, after a few shots and some rain I called it a day on the pics. They are looking good!

Thanks man, I really appreciate all the hand work going into the tantos too!

The lady and I are off to Watkins Glen, NY in the morning for the 6 hour United Sports Car race on Sunday. Stopping in cooperstown on the way to see the hall of fame and go to the Ommegang brewery for lunch.

After the race its off to my hometown of Pittsburgh for the week.

Weather is looking good and my new car is gonna get quite the workout! I'll try to get some awesome pics along the way too.

You a gunsmith?

legally, no. I'm just a tinkerer and have learned a thing or two over the years.

Just a reamer. Usually used in a lathe but since I'm changing an already finished chamber I'm using what's known as a finish reamer basically in a tap handle. Floating pilot for self centering (and not damaging the lands) as well. Got some head space guages to make sure I don't screw things by going too far, lol! I considered buying one but $140 for the reamer, $20 for some pilots, $60 for guages, $40 for handle, and $200 for micrometer adjust stop I would have to redo lots of chambers to justify it. That's only for one cartridge spec too. There are often multiple specs for the same cartridge. I'm building my gun in 6.8spc, but my chamber is in the original spec'd dimensions which had a short free bore and too steep of leade angle (angle of the ramp at the beginning of the rifling) which caused pressures to climb to max spec without allowing to fully utilize the cartridges benefits. Limiting to light bullets and moderate powder charges. My gun will still shoot standard 6.8spc ammo but the chamber will now be what is called 6.8spcII. It will allow use of heavier bullets and bigger charges within SAAMI spec'd pressures. For Remington 6.8 there are about 6 different chambers. There is about 10 different chambers for .308 and about a dozen for .30-'06. All will fire the same ammo for each respective cartridge.

I think a semi auto slash/bang would be wicked cool! Of course, the knife would have to be an assisted opener... :D

Hey Daniel, here's the reamer. Plus a "Go" and "No Go" head space guages. Headspace is the distance from the radius of the shells shoulder in the chamber to the bolt face. If too short the bolt won't close all the way and if too long you could have catastrophic failure known as case head separation.

I figured a visual to go along with the description would help.

Just relaxing tonight. Finished a 2014 SN Hoptimum a minute ago. 10.4% and 100 IBU goes back real easy...

Thinking about doing a pub crawl with the wife tonight!

I highly recommend this beer! Yes, it was $20 for one bottle, but it was damn good.

Bobby, enjoy your breakfast, I just finished mine consisting of yogurt and Advil, lol!
