Rolf the pro tram is easy to set up, I just put it in my mill like a cutter then zero it out on a magnet... after that I take measurements and loosen the base of my mill, shim, tram to check, adjust then do the next axis. It takes a bit of time but with this I do two readings at the same time for more accuracy.
Imagine your drill press being a bit crooked at the base, this is just a way of measuring how crooked it is so you can slip paper or metal shims in to straighten it up.
I currently do it with a dial gauge and sweep it across the mill then guess what to do... this eliminates the sweeping which on my mill is just about impossible
Boring stuff but good in the long run!
