Chinese fakes - New alert!

You really don't know all that much about Taiwan and the Kuomintang that has ruled it since 1947, do you? The KMT was the only legal political party until 1986 and martial law was not lifted until 1992. the KMT has continued to be the ruling party on Taiwan and has acquired property and assets over the years that may be worth as much as $10 billion. It is considered the "richest" legitimate political party in the world. Taiwan/Tapei/the ROC is nothing like any Chinatown in the US.
Did you know that Taiwan is distinct from China in its independence foremost but that it has followed a democratic model based off US policy since WWII and the following Chinese Civil War where it had been backed by US?

Taiwan is basically the biggest Chinatown of the US. It's the US consisting of Chinese. With the governing body being occupied by a succession of US educated Chinese American, mostly from Ivy League, top dollar education.

At one time, everything came from Taiwan for mass market. Not China, but the Republic of China (ROC) which is actually Taiwan and not China at all. China-US economic relations mostly began through Taiwan.

So, saying one wouldn't buy from Taiwan is like saying one wouldn't buy from the US in a way.

I would love to take it to W&C but, sadly, I don't go there anymore. :( Some people who have Sooo little world experience think they can "school" those who have run international businesses, well, again W&C would set them straight. Another reason for the existence of that forum besides perversion. :p Over and out.

I hear they don't even allow chicks in there anymore. You should totally go check it out.

Good stuff is made in all kinds of corners of the globe. Good is good, no matter where it's made. Fake BS is not good. No matter where it's made.

Yea come on by we don't all think we can run a Mc Donald's.
Listen the fakes kill the true makers and companies. Every time a knock off fails it hurts the real companys plain and simple.

Aside from the Chinatown remark, what else said contradicts what you said? All you added was detail. By Chinatown, I just meant it consisted of mostly Chinese, not that it was a shanty town like a Chinatown of the US. I did say top dogs of Taiwan came from money.

I don't imagine they care, at least for the reason that I prefer to buy American. I would imagine a Taiwan member would prefer to buy Taiwan made goods, to support his economy. To help create a demand for the goods, create jobs, etc. And I would support him for that.

You're exactly right sir, i live in Taiwan and i prefer to buy knives produced in Taiwan. I have visited some of their factories before and their workers are some of the most hard working people i have ever seen.

Question : I am a huge fan of Taichung-made Spydercos (Gayle Bradley , Chaparral , Nirvana , Sage Series , etc) so by buying a Taichung Spyderco would that be supporting the Taiwan economy or the U.S. economy (since Spyderco is a U.S. company) ? Or would both economies benefit ?

Whoa.

1) Everyone knows that not all Chinese made knives are garbage counterfeits. Sure some are, everybody know that too.
2) Maybe you can expand upon what you feel goes on on a streetcorner in ChinaTown.
I'm quite interested in this China town reference. Seeing as Chicago has several "Chinatown's," which one should I go to?

The strange thing about the counterfeiting/pirating business in China is that the government oft times turns a blind eye to this activities. I read a few years back that the reason is that a lot of these counterfeit/pirated goods are consumed locally by the burgeoning Chinese "middle" class and the CPPRC figures that cheap luxury goods, even fake ones, are like bread and circuses in that they keep this new class quasi petite bourgeois class content and off of the streets.

I bet there's more gi tantos in service men's hands than striders.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. They're cheap, easy to come by, fairly tough at the price and no big deal if lost or broken.

Beside my love of knives, I've been a collector/part time dealer of rare coins for over 30 years.
You wanna talk about fakes coming out of China with rare coins? Holy mackerel! They are even fooling the best of us who have handled tens of thousands of them.
They are now even making fakes of the certification companies holders with the fake coin inside.
It's a real problem in Numismatics or with any item on the market where decent ROI is to be had.
Even ebay is trying to stop it but way more needs to be done.

Yup. Yepper. And yup.

Both. The infrastructure benefits go to the source country and the profit and halo benefits go to the home country.

Unless you're one of the big global spots with your head office parked in a tax shelter country. IE Apple being located in Ireland.

Any one. Their corners are filled with nice, fellow law-abiding citizens, just like any on the corners in Greektown, Ukrainian Village, Little Italy, Korea Town, etc etc.

It appears some have convinced themselves that all folks of Chinese heritage, either here or abroad, are capable of doing is producing counterfeit items.

Please stop hijacking the thread, people!
I just wanted to give a heads up, not start a flame war about xenophoby, economy, fake coins and counterfeit goods!
