Christmas gift swap!!! LAST DAY TO JUMP IN!!

Okay, got a package from AC700Wildcat (Matt & Misty) Saturday. Never realized he lived near Devils Lake ND! I've watched fishing shows about that lake for years. I was always amazed at the ice fishing that they do there! He'd also mentioned that the lake has been rising in recent years. Seems like I saw a documentary or news story on that subject at one time. Very interesting theories as to why it's occurring and the consequences of it happening.

To my surprise, the little box was absolutely packed full of goodies when I opened it!

First off, there was a very nice and thoughtful Christmas Card. I loved it. Then my eyes feasted on a Mora knife and sheath. I believe this one is the stainless steel model and it has a nice patina to it. I have two of the high carbon models and had been wanting a stainless version. Now I have one!! The box also held a neat little Opinel folding knife. Since I had sent my Case M3 to KyTurkey, I have been without a really good letter/box/package opener at my desk. Now I have an excellent replacement! It also has a collar that twist to prevent it from folding shut and keeps it closed when folded up. Very cool and unique. I have to admit, I've never heard of this company, but I love little knives like this!!!

Matt also sent along some fishing tackles which will be finding good use shortly. There were several spinner rigs that I'll use in late spring to catch Bull Bluegills in deep water. They go Ape over a spinner like these with a worm attached! There was also a Rapala Minnow, RatLTrap in a chrome/blue color. This color is absolutely death to Stripers and White Bass in our neck of the woods! Plus, two spoons, one in Rainbow Trout color and the other in a Blaze orange with black dot color scheme. I've never used the Blaze orange color, but Stripers on the Arkansas River near me go bonkers on the Rainbow color during the Winter! I'm hoping they take a liking to Blaze Orange also!

Matt said that many of the Spinner rigs were made by a company who hires local handicapped people. That's way cool in my book!

He also sent along a magnesium fire starter with a striker made from a hacksaw blade. At least that's what I think the piece of hacksaw blade is for. I've never seen one like that, but it's a neat idea.

Then there was a Zepps predator call included. He doesn't know how good this will come in handy in about a month. Coyotes have been really getting thick around here and this year, everyone was commenting how they were only seeing individual Does without fawns or one Fawn Does. We have a suspicion that the Coyotes population is growing due in part to a steady meal of Whitetail fawn in the Spring and early Summer. We normally use my buddies FoxPro caller, but I think the Song Dogs around here know all the notes by heart now. It's not nearly as effective as it was when he first bought it years ago. This Zepps call will be a great change up and I'm sure it will be the last sound many of our Coyotes will hear!

Finally, I found a Wilson Combat silicone cleaning cloth in the package. The cleaning cloth I normally use is getting pretty ragged and this couldn't have come at a better time!

Once again, thank you Matt & Misty for such a thoughtful action and for taking the time to put together such a nice package. It's much appreciated and I'm very humbled by the gesture. You and the people on this forum are very generous and thoughtful. I can't say it enough.

God Bless ya'll and thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

Very cool gift package!
That will make the small motley assortment I threw together to send you look like a Ethiopian yard sale.
But: I'm pretty sure JUST1MOR sent enough stuff to make up for my meager attempt!

Merry late Christmas, Mudbug007...and a Happy New Year, from Resume Speed,KY.

Glad you liked the items that I sent. After seeing all the other gifts, I had all kinda of ideas of small things that I could include. It gave me ideas of things to send to you and hopefully a bunch of ideas for next year too! The Mora and the Opinel are both carbon steel. Good luck with calling some coyotes. We have a ton of them around here too. They are pretty darn fun to hunt for because they can be very sneaky and are pretty smart too.

Was kinda hesitant about signing up for this gift swap; not sure what to give, etc.

Now I'm thinking I'll be downright upset if this doesn't become a Christmas tradition.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, and it prob'ly sounds corny, but I think it brought us all a little closer together.

JMO.

Another example: I recently had a chance to help out a little with a Fundraiser, on another Forum.

When I asked around for items to donate, guess who were the first three to volunteer?

BA and KFU and Daniel Fairly.

You daymbetcha.

And when we needed help getting the thing off the ground, guess who pitched in?

IMWILSON & JUST1MOR & Sally T. & Biker Trash & sveqs & tower.

As the old-timers useta say: They'll do, to ride the river with! which was a highest form of compliment.

What I'd like to add:

Anybody who doesn't like any of the members I've listed is welcome to kiss my Gnarly ass.

I'mright there with ya!!! I absolutely loved this and will be a part of a gift swap next year, even if it's just you and me Gnarly. :D

I have been watching this thread and it looks like a GREAT success, with a bunch of very generous people...

:D We have lots more numbers, tucked away....;)

I'm betting on 50 members in the 2012 v.2 Gift Swap.

...but for betting on that, we need another thread.

Santa dropped off two more packages today. Only know he's disguised as an attractive older lady driving a USPS jeep. You can't fool me Santa!

The first one is from David King, who I believe is Gnarly!

In it were two black pull tabs, a longer pull tab/lanyard with a swivel hook on the end, two with monkey fists (I think that's what they're called), a small razor knife (that looks like a mini skinning knife), an emergency whistle that is LOUD (I guess that's what you'd expect from an emergency whistle hunh? ), a thumb lite along with a keychain lite and an oil bottle with tips.

The next one was from Mykel.

It held a Kershaw Skyline folder, a Swiss Tech tool and a Fenix E01 flashlight!

It's like you guys know me or something! I already had a Kershaw Skyline and it's one of my favorite folders. I carry it nearly everyday. What makes Mykels my favorite now is that if you notice on the lower left below the ricasso, there's a date. Mine doesn't have that. The Fenix light is one of the most powerful small lights I've ever seen. More so that anything I have that small now. I can shine it across this room and into the closet and clearly make out the stuff in the back of the closet! (unfortunately it also reminds me I need to clean this closet out!). I also have several Swiss Techs as I don't think you can have enough of them. I carry them in my packs, tackle boxes, pickup and now I have a new shiny one for my desk!

Gnarly's gifts were well thought out as well. The cool thing about this type of stuff is it's things I always plan on buying, but never get around to doing it! I've been needing pulls on some of my Winter/Hunting clothes for years, but have never bought any. Now taking a whiz in the outdoors in the dead of Winter just got a little easier! No more hunting for that tiny zipper while cold air rushes in the barn door!

That little razor knife is going on my bench where I do leather work. It will be great for cutting off tag ends of thread! Where can I get replacement blades? Those little lights will find their way to my hunting bags. I hate turning on my big light to find something in the bottom of my bag when I get into my stand or when I'm leaving in the evening. These lights will work just great!! (I did have to hide them from my wife though, seems she wanted one to find stuff in the bottom of her purse! ). The little oil bottle is going to the place I hand sand blades. I've been experimenting with using Mobile 1 0w-20w weight oil as a lubricant while I sand. It's messy trying to just get a few drops on the blade. Now I have something will let me get just the right amount on the steel!

Thank the both of you and everyone else who has sent things or just had good thoughts about this whole thing. I can't express how much this means to me. Although the gifts are really cool and it's eerie how I can use everything that ya'll sent, it's the genuine and caring thoughts and actions that mean the most.

I don't know if Chris has told everyone (I haven't visited that thread where he tells me to stay out since I made that one post!) but my original partner has surfaced. Seems he had some medical issues and will be sending a package now that he's back. If you would like what you sent back, I certainly understand and there will be no hard feelings. Just PM me and we'll keep it between us. As I understand it, a few of you have some stuff in transit as well. This offer goes for ya'll too.

Thanks again guys, it's just real thoughtful and generous of you for doing this!

I can't wait until next year, as I'm already making plans!!!

Glad you got it!

The little razor knife is actually a disposable Finger Scalpel with a #10 blade....Rescue Essentials sells 'em.
The little pinch lights are in every bag I own, plus on my keyrings....Deal Extreme sells 'em....sku #4410.
I use the Mobil 1 0W-40, myself. The 'dropper bottle' works fine w/ oils & solvents.
I put one of the Thumb Lites just inside the top edge of the nightstand drawers.
And one on her remote.

Also: it's great to see so many folks have already signed up for the Christmas Gift Swap 2012 v.2......and Thanx! again to KFU, for a superb idea this past Christmas.....the Gift Swap turned out to be more fun than a marrel of bunkies.

Mine got out of Ohio a "little" late, my fault 100%, but Mudbug has the tracking number so all is good . . . . now if those reindeer can just get thru Missouri and by-pass all those slot machines & casinos to finish their journey . . . . . :D
Be safe.

Glad you got 'em Donald.I would have sent the damascus skyline, but I gave it to a friend a couple of years ago.;)
They sure are sweet little knives, you don't even know it's in your pocket till you reach for it.
And don't even think about sending anything back.

The thumb lite & finger scalpel are way cool Gnarly.

Well Im definitely in for next Christmas. I'll start picking up goodies soon so Santa will have a sleigh full to drop off. :D

Mudbug, you can definitely keep the items I sent to you. I know you will make use of most everything I sent you, so go ahead and use em. :)

I got a package from Chris on Friday. I was very surprised (even though I shouldn't have been :) ) by what he put in it. I couldn't believe it when I saw this neat little traditional folder from JH Lloyd Loreto!!!

I love traditional folders. I've been a Case hoarder for many years and I still have some of my old Schrade pocket knives, but for many years, it's been Case or nothin:cool: Now it looks like my main pocket knife is going to be a JH Lloyd!!!! I did a little research on this maker and it seems he has a home in Mexico and in Tennessee. The knives he makes while living in Mexico are marked "JH Lloyd Loreto". Pretty darn cool!

Chris also included two KFU patches, a set of Sonic Defender Plus ear plugs and a beautiful, and I do mean beautiful!!, block of stabilized Maple! One of my New Years resolutions was to make some hidden tang knives and I guarantee you that his block will go on one of them!

I've been a little busy the last few days, but I'm gonna take a picture of them and post them up in the next day or so. Right now I'm dealing with a clogged main drain and I'm too stubborn (or cheap) to call a plumber. It's like I told my Wife "I've got this handled honey, don't worry, it's just a little clog". That was yesterday and I'm still working on it! Been to Lowes twice today, once for the small hand auger and the second trip was for the bigger/longer one :o.

Now got a buddy coming tomorrow with a power auger!!! :D I'm gonna try out those ear plugs at the range after I get this darn drain unclogged because I'm gonna need to blow off some stress!!

Thanks again Chris, these gifts are very much appreciated and as everyone who knows you already knows, you're a heckuva guy and I appreciate you and this forum!

As promised, here are the pics of the goodies Chris so graciously sent.

and here is a closeup of that JH Lloyd blade and the stabilized Maple. As Bill A would say, the pics don't do this no justice!!

I also got another huge surprise in the mail today from Just1Mor. As I've suspected all along, either you guys/gals are stalking me or you have ESP because it's obvious J1M has me dialed in! In fact, my Wife was so shocked that she's still telling everyone about the package I got today. I'm not sure who's more delighted, me or her!

I honestly don't know where to start. J1M just totally went overboard! But I'll try and explain most things here...

First off, I'm not sure how J1M knew that I was an RAT fan, but somehow he knew. He sent me a RAT patch along with a ESEE sticker, biz card and an IZULA sticker. FYI, I have a RAT 7 and just bought my first IZULA about 3 months ago! I love their stuff!

Next, he sent me a Wilson Tactical sticker along with one from Survival Resources and Combat Elite. I also received other patches from KFU and the shield shaped one I don't recognize. Fill in the blanks here J1M! It's cool one though!

He also sent some Ranger Bands in different sizes (something I've been meaning to do but again, just haven't gotten around to it), parachute buckle and a package of cord locks. These are handier than a pocket on a shirt!

Moving up the right side of the pic, he sent 3 different sizes of tins that will hold any number of things in a survival pack. The Altoids tin contains cedar shavings which light very easy. You can also replace you wifes foo foo smelling potpourri with these! ;) There was also an emergency whistle packed in there along with a first aid kit and signal mirror. A mini flashlight, paracord wristband in cool black and neon green color with a carabiner (which I had to fight my daughter over) along with a weatherproof notebook was also packed in the tiny box!

The zip lock back has more fire starter in it as does the pill bottle (cotton balls with something on them, my guess is petro jelly), some black paracord and the green coiled stuff is a small hose. I've never carried one this small because it can take forever to get all the gas out of the tank with one. I prefer the bigger green garden hose :barf: :p

A couple clear bottles that can be used to carry various items and the white bottle has some windproof/waterproof matches and more tinder. Some jute line that comes in handy for several things, from cordage to tinder. He also threw some water purification tablets in along with zip ties and glow sticks!!! I dug through the shredded paper packing but didn't find the Kitchen sink, but I'm still looking!

Finally there were two knives in the box. He had them wrapped in tissue and at first I though "How neat, cloth to make char cloth out of". Then I realized it was tissue wrapped around something, so I gently cut away the tape to reveal two very good looking knives.

The black one I don't recall who made these. It has a drop point blade on one side and on the other it has a gut hook. I have less than a week left in our Archery season and two tags to go. Hope I get to test this thing out on a couple!

Then there was this nifty little Case 6227 pen knife. It's one that will find it's way into one of my survival pouches! If he wasn't stalking me, how does he know that Case pocketknives are one of my favorites? The evidence stands on its own!!! :D

Once again my Wife and I found ourselves overwhelmed by the generosity of the people on this forum J1M, thank you very, very much for these thoughtful gifts. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into it. For one thing, I haven't been able to get everything to fit back inside that box!

Here's a pic of the gift box from J1M. As I sit and looked at it, I realized that it's pretty much a complete survival kit. I could do a lot worse if I found myself in the middle of nowhere with this kit. Everyone should have several of these in their packs, vehicles, boat and at home.

Wow! I know about Gnarly and Bills "packages" I think they sent me enough stuff to fill my pack and than some. Very thought out items and your right, things you want to pick up but never do.
I think you will like the Sonic Defenders. Since I got some for myself I never need big muffs anymore. You can still hear people talk with them in so you don't have to keep removing your protection. They work real well if you shoot outdoors.
