Nice lids, Dubz!
This weekend, I spent some time at a nearby bluff trying out a new length of Sterling HTP 9mm rope. Here's a wrap 3, pull 2. I also tried a new carabiner to set anchor: Rock Exotica Pirate Screw-Lock.
I'll have to look that one up, new to me
A slight redirect helped give me the right angle off the edge and prevented the rope from deflecting around that little tree in the foreground. Also used a Rock Exotica Pirate here.
redirects are a major tool in the trade for climbing arborists, y'all should see some of their kit, esp since it can be set from the ground!!!
The second smaller line in the pics above is a new safety tether system I put together with 6mm cordage and two 4mm prusiks for adjustment. It worked great while I was setting edge protection and while I was loading and locking off my descender. Here's a picture of how it works.
can you explain the weirdness of the prusik cordage attaching to the carabiner?
check out this: http://www.rockexotica.com/aztek/ and the assembly instructions - putting captive prusiks inline to the system. i have the aztek, the shock system they use is very interesting, and reminds me of your prusik there.
Edge protection!
Since I was rappelling alone, I used an autoblock.
i somewhat prefer the Petzl mechanical version of what that does, but i'll have to google yours (or youtube) for details).
there's lots of super cool things arborists have borrowed from all the climbing arts, but esp the varieties of prusiks, and attachment knots. it rocks.
I spent my time practicing changeovers between descending and ascending, all with the the Sterling ATS.
the ATS looks pretty interesting. i don't have one as such, was thinking more classical, but it has utiliity; though i do have a dual-rope descender for self-resuce in case i need it. some of the dual ascenders are pretty sweet (i'm training mostly on Ddrt, though SRT is next)...
