I'd like to thank Dubz publicly for making me a new Beckerhead number picture. It's a lot different and better, and it's going to take some getting used to seeing.

Thanks again brotha!!

No problem.

Nice lids, Dubz!

This weekend, I spent some time at a nearby bluff trying out a new length of Sterling HTP 9mm rope. Here's a wrap 3, pull 2. I also tried a new carabiner to set anchor: Rock Exotica Pirate Screw-Lock.

A slight redirect helped give me the right angle off the edge and prevented the rope from deflecting around that little tree in the foreground. Also used a Rock Exotica Pirate here.

The second smaller line in the pics above is a new safety tether system I put together with 6mm cordage and two 4mm prusiks for adjustment. It worked great while I was setting edge protection and while I was loading and locking off my descender. Here's a picture of how it works.

Edge protection!

Since I was rappelling alone, I used an autoblock.

I spent my time practicing changeovers between descending and ascending, all with the the Sterling ATS.

Here's the little practice bluff--probably 25' or so. I might take a tape with me next time to measure. I climbed it (completely ascended rope) a couple of times.

Packed up and ready to head back home.

How are you liking that Sterling HTP? I have a 60m section in 3/8" diameter. Impressed so far. Rock Exotica makes excellent hardware and all of it in the US (Salt Lake City). Great company and Rock is a great guy. Yes, that's really his name. Nice use of a BD chalk bag BTW! The Sterling ATS is super-versatile. Do you like it?

Took my '84 Blazer in to a shop to get some issues checked out. They came back with $3800 to fix everything. Right now they're doing a drag link and a steering gear to the tune of $770, the rest I'm going to try to find someone cheaper. The shop I used to go to was relatively inexpensive, I thought, for the stuff I had them do to my other pickup but I had a couple times where they forgot to fix one of the smaller things when I went in there with multiple issues which is why I wanted to try a different place. :s

I took my 90 dakota in the other week, cost 1000 to replace the valve cover gasket, vacum hose, and to get the timing belt tuned. Plus I was told everyone that the belt will need to be replaced soon, which will cost another 700 bucks. Thinking it might be about time to start looking into a newer vehicle

I like my Blazer too much plus I'm fairly confident the other shop will be WAY cheaper. I once took my Sonoma to a Midas for a brake inspection and they wanted $450 to replace the rear brake cylinders and replace the drums. I bought the drums for exactly half of what Midas wanted for new drums at the auto parts store and had the shop I used to go to (the one that would sometimes forget things) do the brake cylinders for $150 and throw on the drums since they have to pull the drums to get to the cylinders anyway.

It sounded like this place (Car Doctor) wanted to rebuild the tranny because there is a bad seal leak that they have to pull the trans to fix and it isn't much more to just rebuild it anyway. But I've already had the trans rebuilt (I think they're assuming the trans is original and likely doesn't have long left anyway since the truck is 30 years old) maybe 70k ago and beefed up so the trans does not need a rebuild. My head was kinda spinning as he was going over the laundry list of stuff they found but I'm hoping I can get what it ACTUALLY needs for 1/3 - 1/2 of what these guys quoted. This is why I don't usually take my cars to fancy chains where everyone wears uniforms and all that.

the other day there was an immaculate 86 isuzu trooper in the Tulsa craigs list for a not horrible price.

Nice lookin' pup WW.
Born on the 4th of July?....
His name should be Tom Cruise. :D

Thanks fellas!! I want to roll around in that grass with him Right now! I love his eyes.

Jonny i said that same thing to my wife... She had no idea what i was talking about lol

All the pups in the litter had names like America, banner, stripe, glory etc... But i already painted Battle on the dog house so it's official haha! Plus it still fits.

Heading to the in-laws cabin for a few days starting Saturday. Lots and lots of trees. Trying to decide what steel to take.

The struggle is real.

All mine are Petzl Ascensions

i have one of those, and others. good stuff. in particular, for use as mechanical advance on a tension system for directing trees... alternating 5:1 with a portawrap, on a 3/4 bull rope. good times, 200 feet of that rope is 33 lbs, and good for "Average Breaking Strength is 23,000 lbs"

look at this goober: https://www.amazon.com/KONG-432595-Trender-Double-Ascender/dp/B0050EIA62

for my purposes, backed by safety prussiks, pretty spiffy for speed ascending. i'm looking into a knee ascender, it'll by like walking up stairs, straight up a rope.

i've saved your pix for later, look like good stuff, safety backed with anchor knots? decent safety protocols :D i want to see if i can find SAR/rescue up here, training, and possible, offer training after certification. at the very least, i want to do a few things, to improve my "knot" dying :D

May I suggest the 5/15 combo, paired with a 9 or 20.

Suggest away.....you're still missing the point - his whole premise of restraint and struggle is wrong.
Unless they don't all fit in his vehicle - in which case his question should be "which trailer should I get?"
